The Brooklyn Center Community School (BCCS) District is seeking a Dean of Students to join our elementary team. The Dean of Students is responsible for fostering a positive and safe school climate that supports the academic, social, and emotional development of all elementary students. This role focuses on student discipline, attendance, behavior management, and promoting a respectful and inclusive learning environment. This role also promotes comprehensive and culturally competent restorative justice support to students, designed to ensure the academic success of students, reduce disproportionate discipline, and promote positive climate and culture. The Dean of Students works collaboratively with students, staff, parents, and the community to ensure student success and well-being.

Essential Job Responsibilities:
+ Supervise students to ensure a safe, supportive, culturally responsive, equitable, and welcoming learning environment
+ Serve as a visible and accessible presence throughout the school (e.g., hallways, cafeteria, playground) to monitor student behavior and build rapport.
+ Supervise students during non-instructional times (e.g., arrival, dismissal, lunch, recess).
+ Support the reduction of racial disparities in suspensions and expulsions through the use of evidence-based practices.
+ Develop, implement, and enforce school-wide behavior expectations and disciplinary policies in alignment with district guidelines.
+ Address student behavioral issues, conduct investigations, and administer appropriate disciplinary actions, ensuring fairness and consistency.
+ Implement restorative practices and positive behavior interventions and supports to promote self-regulation and conflict resolution skills.
+ Assist in the development and implementation of operational guidelines in the areas of building organization, student conduct, community involvement, security of the school facility, and student transportation
+ Communicate with and engage parents/guardians to resolve student academic and behavior issues and foster relationships with parents/ guardians to be actively involved in their education experience
+ Monitor, advise, coach, and support student behavior management to ensure a safe, supportive, welcoming learning environment
+ Restore disruptive classroom communities and group dynamics
+ Collaborate with teachers, school mental health professionals, and other school staff to engage students in community building and restorative practices.
+ Collaborate with colleagues on strategies for addressing unacceptable behavior and help them develop plans for implementing such strategies.
+ Ensure that data collection and documentation is completed accurately and timely.
+ Collaborate with other specialists for positive behavior approaches and conflict resolution.
+ Provide and maintains appropriate communication with family and community
+ Participate in student support team meetings as needed to discuss student progress and interventions.
+ Assist with emergency procedures and drills.
+ Coordinate and supervise evening events; Supervise cafeteria, playground, and other activities as assigned
+ Prepare or supervise the preparation of reports, records, lists and other required information and data; writes letters, memos and other forms of correspondence
+ Assist with student suspensions and other forms of discipline; coordinates student expulsion proceedings
+ Other duties as apparent or assigned
Essential SkillsAbility to establish and maintain standards of behavior; ability to deliver articulate verbal presentations and written reports; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, students, parents and the general community;Ability to relate and communicate effectively with people of different cultural, ethnic, and socio-economic background; Demonstrated success working effectively in a diverse, collaborative team environment, with skills in promoting cultural inclusiveness; Skilled in supervision of students, strong communication skills and strong technology skills.Duty Days:215 duty daysQualifications:Bachelor's degree with coursework in education, or related field and experience in student behavior management, or equivalent combination of education and experience.Pay and Benefits: $51,000- $95,000/year based on education and experienceWhy Choose BCCS?
