Electrophysiology Device Registered Nurse

Summary:

Reporting to Clinical Manager (or designee) the Electrophysiology (EP) Device RN will provide thorough proficient interrogation and re-programming in person remotely and/or via phone transmission to patients with cardiac implantable electrical devices (CIEDs). Responsible for initial device analysis preliminary report generation and alerting physician or non-physician practitioner to urgent issues requiring further attention. 

Responsibilities:

� Interrogate interpret and re-program cardiac devices with minimal physician supervision.

� Trouble shoot critical device issues and take immediate steps toward resolution.

� Collaborate with Physicians and Advanced Practice Providers regarding device status and accurately document device analysis in Electronic Medical Record (EMR) for review.

� Obtains and interprets a health history for patients seen in clinic. Reviews laboratory and other test results taking note of abnormalities and acting on abnormalities according to established protocols and/or reporting of same to provider. Provides necessary nursing intervention as appropriate.

� Assists with the management of patient calls such as taking direct patient calls or triaging calls. Provides information to patients regarding diagnostic test results.

� Educate patients on all aspects of their device including remote monitoring shock plans and follow-up protocol.

� Provides telephone or in clinic advice to patients regarding treatment of certain minor acute problems related to cardiac care. May call pharmacy for patients requesting medication refills.

� May perform the following � mix administer and start IVs; administer EKGs; remove sutures; provide wound care/dressings.

� Ensure charges are accurately captured for device interrogation.

� Schedule patients for device appointment follow up in EMR and remote website.

� Immediately contact �no show" patients to ensure they are re-scheduled.

� Travel to associate offices for assigned device clinics.

� Participate in positive proactive inter- and intra-departmental communication. Promote a healthy clinical environment and good working relationships.

� Serve as resource to physicians and other practice employees regarding device patients and services.

� Ability to utilize and maintain programmers of multiple vendors.

� Keep equipment in good working condition and notify appropriate personnel of problem areas or safety issues.

� Ensure programming rooms are adequately stocked with necessary supplies.

� Participate in professional development activities and maintain professional affiliations.

� Expected to identify process improvement ideas and contribute to creating solutions. 

� Perform wound and device checks post device implantation

� Demonstrate leadership effective communication and excellent critical thinking skills.

Other information:

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

� Baccalaureate in Nursing with current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island

� Certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS).

� Certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

� International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners (IBHRE) certification not required but desirable within two years of practice.

 

EXPERIENCE:

Two to three years related RN experience in Cardiology Required. Experience in Electrophysiology Preferred. This job has a very technical component. Applicants must be open to an extensive training period.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ambulatory outpatient cardiology office environment with occasional stressful conditions associated with patient care.

 

INDEPENDENT ACTION:

Responds to individual patient-care situations demonstrating knowledge and skills acquired through education certification and work experience.
