We are currently seeking an experienced Electronics Design Engineer – Space Exploration to support our Electronic Systems team. This role is part of a dynamic engineering group supporting advanced development and testing of flight and ground hardware for NASA missions. Note: This is a potential opening. We are actively identifying qualified candidates and conducting interviews in anticipation of formal position approval. What You’ll Do: As an Electronics Design Engineer, you’ll work under the guidance of the Electronics & Electrical Section Manager and collaborate closely with a team of over 45 engineers. You’ll support end-to-end development of electronic systems for spaceflight, including design, testing, and integration. Responsibilities include: Lead or support electronic system design efforts from concept through deployment. Interpret and apply NASA electronic component development specifications. Design and develop component test stands and lab instrumentation test systems. Create and modify LabVIEW code for automated test equipment. Develop and execute detailed test and verification procedures. Collaborate with technicians to assemble and validate test systems. Design and fabricate breakout boxes and digital/analog sensor emulators. Select and evaluate instrumentation (e.g., pressure transducers, thermocouples, RTDs, flow meters). Troubleshoot, repair, and improve legacy and prototype systems. Perform analog/digital/PCB power circuit design and layout. Coordinate PCB layout with eCAD designers. Work with power systems including switching regulators, soft-start circuits, impedance measurements, and efficiency testing. Use electrical test equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters, power analyzers, etc.). Support cable harness and analog instrumentation development. Ensure compliance with bonding, grounding, and JSC engineering standards. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline. 5–10 years of experience in electronics design, development, and testing. Hands-on experience with: Analog, digital, and power circuit design Power supply design and distribution Circuit simulation tools (e.g., PSpice, OrCAD, Multisim) PCB design using tools such as Altium Designer LabVIEW and National Instruments data acquisition systems Familiarity with electronic system bonding and grounding practices U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency Ability to obtain a U.S. Government background investigation Preferred Qualifications: MS or Ph.D. in Engineering Experience with embedded systems design, including microcontrollers, FPGAs, I2C/SPI, UARTs Familiarity with Linux OS and development in C/C++, Python Experience with hardware and VHDL development for spaceflight Knowledge of JSC (Johnson Space Center) standards and review processes Proficiency with interface protocols: Ethernet, RS-232/422/485, SPI, I2C Hands-on experience designing and testing: Stepper/brushless DC-DC motor control circuits Battery and power distribution systems Analog instrumentation systems and harness assemblies Experience developing, validating, and troubleshooting flight or mission-critical systems Excellent communication skills and experience working on multidisciplinary teams Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Project, PowerPoint, Word, OneNote) Why Join Us?
