Electronic Mechanical Design Engineer II

We are seeking a Electronic Mechanical Design Engineer II to help with mechanical design activities in the electronic group in Brno, CZ. The Electronic Mechanical Design Engineer II is a key member of the Engineering staff and has responsibility for mechanical design of the drives electronics products in the Brno facility. The position reports to the Manager of this Design Team. The Design team will consist of Design Engineers, Mechanical Designers, Layout/CAD drafters and other Engineering documentation specialists.  The expected team size is 7-9 people.

This individual will play a critical role on the team to guide the design & innovation work regarding the development high-quality motor drive products.  The team will be responsible for high power electronics designs spanning all phases of a product lifecycle: new product development, modification of existing designs, sustaining engineering, product verification and product validation.  The role partners with other functional areas to ensure the Engineering department is meeting the needs of internal and external Customers. 

The role will be working with world class experts in the following areas:

3D designers using CREO, Solid Works and other tools2 and 3-phase power stages from 24VDC to 480VAC and from 1 Arms to 200 Arms.Lab testing with high power electronics and rotating machinery to validate operation.UL, CE, CSA, TUV agency certification, international regs RoHS, REACH and SCIP Database

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Along with those identified below, other duties may be assigned.  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Primary Responsibilities:

Participation on NPD, architecture, mechanical design, prototype, verification, and validation phases to deliver a world class product to customers.Ensure engineering best practices and internal Kollmorgen development processes are followed by the team.Develop product specification, design and the modelling e.g. heatsinks or plastic enclosuresCreation of 3D models, part lists, test specifications, and technical documentation.Oversee and create PCB Layout and Mechanical designs.Collaborate with other departments and design groups to ensure successful product introduction and maintain the product throughout its lifecycle.Provide expert consultation in one or more areas for the design, development, and implementation of technical products and systems. Relies on extensive experience and judgement to plan and accomplish goals.Demonstrates a broad range of expertise in a variety of the field’s concepts, practices, and procedures.Recommends alterations and product development needs in the area managed.Supports Value Engineering efforts including execution and identification of impactful projects.Supports Continuous Improvement activity individually and with Engineering resources as appropriate.Manages Engineering Change Control and participates in establishing and improving the ISO Procedures and Departmental procedures.Minimal travel is required.  Must be available to travel to domestic and international locations as needed to visit Suppliers, Customers, and other Company locations/ functions (<10% of time).

General motion knowledge (e.g. motion trajectories, kinematics, motors, drives) is highly valuableActively champions Regal Business System (RBS) toolsPrior experience in a Supervisory role is a plusDemonstrated engineering analytical capability.Excellent problem- solving skillsDemonstrated successful Customer interaction history.

Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field, MS preferred5 years of experience in mechanical designExperience with participation on multiple projects required

Physical Demand and Work Environment:

Able and willing to safely work in a laboratory environment.
