Key electronic component technologies provide the foundational technology building blocks that enable valuable data to be gathered from machines and engines.
Job Summary:
Support and lead projects to develop and maintain electro-magnetic control valves for engines, transmissions, and machines. Develop and manage firmware for valves that have embedded controls. Independently conduct hands-on testing in component labs located in Mossville, Illinois.
Develop high-quality electronic/electrical component product lines for engine and machine systems that meet complex requirements and low-cost producer (LCP) targets. Partner with suppliers to deliver production components and help the systems engineers integrate successfully into various applications. This is the third career level in engineering and represents a shift from learning and assisting to fully contributing in assignments that are broader, more complex, and challenging in nature.
What You Will Do:
The Electronic Components Engineer position develops, improves, and troubleshoots electronic/electrical hardware used in an array of engine and machine systems. This generally includes the development of product requirements, analysis and simulation, electronic component selection, schematic/layout development, and platform verification and validation. Some or all of these activities may be performed in partnership with a supplier including the manufacturing plan and process development.
This position conceives and provides practical product design applications using complex technical principles. The emphasis of this position is on creating concepts and directing the design and development of complex engineering projects.
The position responsibilities include a strong focus on quality through simulation, analysis, verification, and validation testing at the component level, subsystem, and system level. Advanced troubleshooting and analysis skills are needed to resolve complex development and field issues and to improve overall performance and cost.

Product Design: Knowledge of and the ability to utilize design tools (e.g. CAD) to convert customer and market requirements into a product design.
Reliability Management: Knowledge of reliability management; ability to utilize various tools, techniques, methodologies and metrics to meet and manage hardware product performance and reliability objectives.
Mechanical Engineering: Knowledge of mechanical engineering processes, techniques and methods; ability to design and implement machines and other mechanical devices that safely realize a desired objective or invention.
Supplier Management: Knowledge of processes and methods to effectively manage business relationships and transactions with suppliers of raw materials or product components; ability to apply related knowledge, experience and skills into real practice.
Considerations For Top Candidates:
Bachelor's degree in an accredited Engineering curriculum (Electrical, Computer, or Mechanical)
Mechatronics experience. A cross between mechanical and electrical engineering, would be ideal experience
Electro-magnetic valve and firmware experience
Experience in embedded electronic hardware development
Excellent analytical skills
Ability to perform complex assignments
Strong technical leadership skills
Strong problem-solving skills
Ability to communicate technical information effectively

Summary Pay Range:
$95,640.00 - $143,520.00Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
