Position Summary:
Install, inspect, adjust, repair and rebuild lighting fixtures, electrical equipment (motors, controllers, switchgear) and systems within the hospital complex and/or any off‐site property serviced by RPH Maintenance which fall within departmental capabilities. Responsible for the daily function and operation, ensuring safe and efficient operation of all mechanical/electrical systems of the Combined Heat and Power (CHP) system including but not limited to; High Pressure Steam Boiler, Reciprocating Engine, Waste Heat Recovery System, Chemical Treatment Systems, Emergency Generators and Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS).
Education, License & Cert:
High school diploma or equivalent required. A valid driver’s license is required for travel to various facilities. During orientation period, employee may be required to participate in a "Powered industrial truck operators" course (#78‐199 published by NIOSH) and is able to interpret and exercise all information and rules set forth in the regulations. This must be renewed by incumbent annually.
Experience:
A combination of two or more years of experience and up to two years of post high school vocational training in specialty area totaling at least four years.
Essential Functions:
1. Monitors alarms on the CHP system and equipment. Performs maintenance and repairs on the CHP system as needed to ensure maximum reliability of services to all areas of the hospital.
2. Works with the Boiler Operator, Plant Operation/CHP Specialist and 3rd party Energy Provider to optimize CHP performance and the timing of scheduled PMs.
3. Participates in certification exercises, shop meetings and other activities required to gain information and instructions that will keep the Power Plant operating effectively and efficiently.
4. Conducts preventive maintenance program under the direction of the Plant Operations Supervisor, makes periodic checks and adjustments to all electrical equipment to ensure proper operation and acts to resolve problems via meetings and other appropriate channels.
5. Works with and assists, as necessary, outside contractors and engineers that are working within the hospital complex and/or any off‐site property serviced by RPH Maintenance and attends mandatory in‐services as required.
6. Reads and interprets blue prints, technical manuals and schematics and instructs trainees, when necessary, in various facets of his trade.
7. Maintains a current knowledge of: All electrical circuits, switchgear, emergency power generators and automatic transfer switches ‐ 120 volt, single phase and 3 phase circuits, 208, 220, 240 and 480 volts.
8. Maintains a current knowledge of the safety regulations pertaining to his trade and the hospital complex and adheres to the regulations while ensuring that work performed meets all electrical and safety codes and practices as well as policies and procedures of the hospital/maintenance department.
9. Maintains inventory of necessary equipment essential for performing work assignments and demonstrates cost effectiveness by: proper use and care of equipment; appropriate and prudent use of supplies; accurately recording labor and supply charges and appropriately utilizing available resources.
10. Recognizes maintenance problems outside his specialty area, contacts appropriate maintenance personnel to correct problem and acts to resolve problems via meetings and other appropriate channels.
11. Maintain current knowledge of the fire alarm systems with the ability to troubleshoot, install and maintain proper system operation.
Other Duties:
1. Responds to emergencies in the facility, makes emergency repairs as needed and is part of weekend/holiday rotation to provide 24/7 coverage of the Power Plant and Hospital.
2. Assists in removing snow from facilities grounds and maintains grounds as required.

Pay rate ranges from $26.71 - $41.70 per hour.
