Opportunity Summary
The Electrical Technician is responsible for overseeing and performing electrical maintenance at the Nacogdoches Generating Facility. This role involves maintaining and repairing both energized and de-energized power plant equipment, as well as planning and supervising electrical contract work in accordance with established standards, procedures, and schematics. Key duties include performing preventive maintenance, assembling, and disassembling equipment using proper rigging and lifting techniques, and troubleshooting using appropriate electrical test equipment. The Electrical Technician will work closely with plant management and O&M personnel and must be available to respond to after-hours callouts as needed.
Your scope of responsibility as Electrical Technician includes the following primary functions:
Support plant operations as needed to ensure the continued safe and reliable operation of the facility. Respond to after-hours emergencies and provide technical support during routine plant operations. Assist management in maintaining electrical safety protocols for both plant personnel and outside contractors. Support operations by ensuring all relevant points are included in LOTO procedures, and that switching and grounding operations are performed safely. Perform troubleshooting, diagnostic analysis, and maintenance on plant electrical equipment as needed. Assist the O&M Manager with planning electrical outage work and new equipment installations. Help maintain the required spare parts inventory for electrical equipment. Update and maintain testing schedules and documentation for all electrical equipment. Make updates to documents related to design changes or equipment modifications. Identify equipment or procedural issues and recommend solutions. Maintain and troubleshoot all aspects of electrical and control equipment, including high, medium, and low voltage switchgear; generators and exciters; transformers; protective relaying; station batteries and UPS systems; motors, cables, and conduits; control systems; lighting; grounding and lightning protection; and fire protection systems. Serve as the administrator of the Qualified Electrical Worker (QEW) Program, ensuring compliance and proper documentation. The Electrical Technician reports directly to the O&M Manager.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Physical demands include standing for extended periods, climbing multiple levels of stairs, climbing ladders over 50 feet in height, entering and exiting equipment cabs, traversing uneven or elevated surfaces, and working inside confined spaces. The role routinely requires lifting up to 50 pounds and performing tasks from elevated platforms or walkways.
Work may be performed in conditions involving dust, wood particles, fumes, high noise levels, and extreme temperatures near operating equipment. Outdoor tasks in all weather conditions are required, including in high-heat environments adjacent to biomass processing systems.
The use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory and may include hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, high-visibility clothing, steel-toe boots, flame-resistant clothing (FRC), respirators, and fall protection. Fit testing for respirators may be required. Strict smoking restrictions are enforced in and around the facility to ensure plant safety and environmental compliance.
Fitness for Duty
All personnel will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program, which includes a post-offer physical examination, drug screening, and post-employment random drug screening.
Work Schedule
The Electrical Technician works a regular Monday through Friday day shift schedule. While this position primarily follows standard daytime hours, occasional extended hours may be required based on workload demands, plant conditions, or special projects. Weekend or holiday work may be necessary at times, and the role may also include periodic callouts or "on-call" responsibilities.
Compensation
This position offers a base pay rate ranging from $43 to $60 per hour, along with an annual performance bonus.
Core Qualifications and Skills
We are seeking a qualified Electrical Technician with hands-on experience in power generation operations and maintenance. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong electrical aptitude, a commitment to safety, and a proven ability to contribute effectively within a team environment to support reliable plant performance.
An Associate degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Plant Technology, or a related field is preferred. Alternatively, equivalent technical training in industrial electrical systems is beneficial, though not required. Relevant industry or military experience may be considered in lieu of education on a year-for-year basis. Minimum of 8 years of experience as a journeyman electrician or equivalent in a power plant or similar industrial facility. Industry or military experience, including completion of an electrical apprenticeship or equivalent training, is preferred. Strong knowledge of plant operations, safety protocols, and equipment maintenance is highly desirable. Thorough understanding of electrical safety practices, including hazard recognition, shock and arc flash boundaries, and proper grounding procedures. Proficient in job safety planning, including hazard identification, risk assessment, and the selection of appropriate risk control measures and personal protective equipment (PPE). Knowledgeable in the proper use of PPE, including arc flash protection, insulating and shielding materials, and insulated tools. Skilled at identifying exposed, energized conductors and circuits and determining nominal voltage. Familiar with applicable electrical policies, procedures, and precautionary techniques for working around electrical hazards. Proficient in troubleshooting electrical circuits and controls using reference materials and test equipment (e.g., multimeter, amp probe, megger). Solid working knowledge of electrical systems, including switchgear, protective relays, motors, generators, transformers, circuit breakers, cables, and AC/DC UPS systems (up to 138 kV). Able to read and interpret electrical drawings, prints, P&IDs, and logic diagrams. Proficient with hand and power tools. Basic computer skills, including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office software. Working knowledge of PLC systems is preferred. Excellent organizational and communication skills.Must possess a valid, unrestricted U.S. driver’s license and ensure it remains in good standing at all times.
