The Electrical Systems Technician I will install, modify, rebuild, repair, or overhaul electronic and electrical equipment and controls. Troubleshoot electrical and electronic problems throughout the facility for production equipment, building systems and power controls. Install and put into operation major electronic control systems that are new to production or that are major modifications of existing systems. Perform preventive maintenance on systems. Perform first level troubleshooting and repair of new systems during the operational tests and existing systems and improvise procedures to cope with unforeseen defects. Construct interface devices and modifications to the equipment from sketches and verbal instructions in order to refine the new system operations
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required of the Electrical Systems Technician I.
**Materials & Products**
+ Work on highly complex systems of electronic sensing and control. This includes multiple axis numerically controlled (NC) machine tools with continuous path or contouring control capability, such as machining centers, plant controls, and centralized environmental monitoring and control systems (EMCS) that use special purpose, dedicated computers to store operating parameters and initiate adjustments.
+ May work on analog, digital, and/or temperature, logic systems, programmable controlled equipment and systems, and CNC equipment. Performs complex tests and check-outs where fault isolation requires detailed knowledge and understanding of system, interfaces, test procedures, specifications and other pertinent parameters.
+ Work on a variety of electrical equipment such as AC/DC motors (single, split, and three-phase), generators, starters, voltage regulators, servo mechanisms, alternators, transformers, actuators, power control panels, control sticks, instrument panels, or inverters. May rewind motors, generators, transformers, precision coils, and similar components.
+ May work on power distribution systems and substations if certified with proper training.
**Equipment**
+ Use standard hand tools and a variety of test equipment such as voltmeters, ohmmeters, growlers, meggers, resistance bridges, and analyzers to test electrical characteristics.
+ Use feeler, depth, tension, and spring gauges; micrometers; and dial indicators to measure clearances, tolerances, and dimensional characteristics.
+ Make adjustments, set cams or other controls, and perform operational tests of items for specified performance characteristics such as torque, force, voltage, and current consumption or to detect excessive vibration, overheating, surge, or drag.
+ Proficient in the use of a computer, and various software programs to troubleshoot programmable controller and CNC equipment. Provide electrical/electronic documentation using CAD or similar software.
