Electrical Engineering Intern

The devices we make at SEL are embedded in the power grid. They prevent blackouts. They make outages safer and shorter in duration; they add cybersecurity, automation, and communication. They use cutting-edge technologies and operate at speeds that push other pieces of the grid to go faster. As an Engineering Intern in Engineering Services, you’ll provide solutions and services that help our customers protect and control critical electrical infrastructure and power systems worldwide.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Provide technical support to SEL staff
2. Develop and maintain knowledge in SEL processes and technologies
3. Perform testing on new and existing technology
4. Document and communicate results
5. Adopt and implement SEL Values, Operational Principles, and World Class Manufacturing Principles
6. Understand. Create. Simplify.
7. Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Understanding of electrical power systems

Strong foundation in Boolean logic, circuits, and electromagnetism

Attention to detail
Excellent writing and verbal communication skills
Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities

Capability to collaborate effectively

Availability to work in-person in Houston, TX
Background check results satisfactory to SEL
Negative drug test result(s)

Preferred Qualifications

Problem solving and analytical thinking

Modeling and simulation of electrical systems

Proficiency in programming with Python, JavaScript or C++

Practical knowledge of SEL protective relays & automation controllers

Available to work part time during the school year and full time in the summer

This position is located in Boise, ID, capital of the gem state, and on the Boise River in the southwestern part of the state. You will enjoy local restaurants in a vibrant downtown full of small businesses, easy access to mountain foothills and 190 miles of trails. The city is also home to great schools and universities including Boise State University. Boise has been ranked as one of America's fastest growing cities, making it a great place to live and work.

Pay Range Data

($19.50 - $32.50 per hour)* Our intern pay is determined based on the internship role (the work you would be doing) and your year in school (when you plan to graduate). Talk to your recruiter if you are curious about the rate for your year in school.
