Electrical Engineering Intern

The devices we make at SEL are embedded in the power grid. They prevent blackouts. They make outages safer and shorter in duration; they add cybersecurity, automation, and communication. As an Electrical Engineering Intern in Engineering Services, you’ll provide solutions and services that help our customers protect and control critical electrical infrastructure and power systems worldwide.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Provide technical support to SEL staff
2. Develop and maintain knowledge in SEL processes and technologies
3. Perform testing on new and existing technology
4. Document and communicate results
5. Adopt and implement SEL Values, Operational Principles, and World Class Manufacturing Principles
6. Understand. Create. Simplify.
7. Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Understanding of electrical power systems

Strong foundation in Boolean logic, circuits, and electromagnetism

Attention to detail
Excellent writing and verbal communication skills
Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities

Capability to collaborate effectively

Availability to work in-person in Houston, TX
Background check results satisfactory to SEL
Negative drug test result(s)

Preferred Qualifications

Problem solving and analytical thinking

Modeling and simulation of electrical systems

Proficiency in programming with Python, JavaScript or C++

Practical knowledge of SEL protective relays & automation controllers

Available to work part time during the school year and full time in the summer
