Your Opportunity
Stantec’s Mining Practice is hiring an Electrical Power Engineer to join our growing team across Canada. This position reports to the Electrical Engineering Supervisor. As an Electrical Power Engineer, you will be a key member of the electrical team working with various clients in completing feasibility studies and detailed engineering projects for underground and surface mining operations. You would have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects both domestic and international. This role is for a full-time position.

+ You will work with a team of engineers and designers in the planning and execution of project work, including scoping, asset integrity assessments, as-built documentation, feasibility studies, and detailed engineering. You will provide technical support during construction and commissioning.
+ You will provide clients with engineering support to meet their needs and incorporate client suggestions for future requirements in a timely, efficient, and cost-effective manner. This position is intended to be client facing and includes attending client meetings, which may at times be remote, as well as corresponding directly with the client.
+ You will regularly interface with other disciplines and departments to execute projects.
+ Part-time office presence is a requirement
+ You will be responsible for the review and analysis of drawings for possible safety and constructability problems prior to issuance to clients.
As a member of the electrical/automation team, your primary duties will include:
+ Power system design and analysis in accordance with applicable codes for surface and underground mining operations.
+ Incorporation of innovation, optimization, and standardization in designs as appropriate considering constructability and economics.
+ Completion of fit-for-purpose designs that meet the client’s needs and requests.
+ Preparation of quality reports and calculation packages as project deliverables.
+ Development and completion of power systems analysis models using ETAP, EasyPower and/or SKM.
+ Report project progression updates and/or issues to Discipline Leads, Area Managers or Project Managers.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
+ Self-starter, with the ability to handle change and work with minimal supervision. You must be a contemplative person who is willing to challenge your own work as well as the work of those around you.
+ Excellent knowledge of applicable design codes and familiarity with Mine Safety and Health Administration Regulations.
+ Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, along with excellent interpersonal abilities and willingness to work in a team atmosphere.
+ Previous experience as a Lead Engineer on detailed engineering/construction projects with a consulting firm or Owner’s team.
+ Demonstrated leadership skills and project engineering experience.
+ Ability to take the lead on a project team and mentor junior staff members.
+ Completing inspections and condition assessments for electrical and communications infrastructure (this may include climbing ladders and walking / standing for extended periods of time).
+ Willingness to travel to client sites or other Stantec offices (~10% travel).
Education and Experience
+ Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
+ Professional Engineering license is required.
+ 20-30 years of engineering, design, and construction experience in heavy industry, particularly surface or underground mining.
+ Required technical experience in:
+ Electrical Infrastructure & Power Distribution Systems Design including: 35 kV, 25 kV, 15 kV, 5 kV and 600 V power distribution/motor control
+ Mine infrastructure design including switch rooms, messenger, tray, shaft/borehole cable installations
+ Mine wide power distribution and capacitive charging current/ground potential rise assessments
+ Condition assessment and function testing
+ Lighting design and modelling
+ Ground system design and ground grid testing
+ Mine Services Process Control & Instrumentation Design including: - Ore & Waste Handling (Traffic Management -Ore Pass Dumping Controls, Crusher Controls, Conveyor Synchronization)
+ Hoisting System Process Control and Interfaces
+ Ventilation/Ventilation-on-Demand
+ Process Piping Systems (Dewatering, Fuel Delivery, Compressed Air, Process Water)

**Pay Transparency:** In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
