**Discipline: Caterpillar Technology – Electronic Control Systems**
**Location: Peterborough, UK**
**Salary** : **£24,500, Share Scheme, Pension, Flexible working, and 25 days annual leave (plus bank holidays).**
We currently have some exciting opportunities for industrial placement students to join Caterpillar. We are looking for talented, ambitious people from various backgrounds who are interested in setting out on the road to success and in return, we will provide you the training, mentoring, and support you need to have a successful placement year.
**_*Please note that in order to be eligible to complete a 12 Month Industrial Placement commencing July 2026, you must be in your penultimate year of study unless enrolled in an integrated master’s program._**

Based in Peterborough, the Caterpillar Technology team offers some of the most dynamic and forward-thinking engineering opportunities within the global Caterpillar organisation. By leveraging the latest advancements in Electronics and Electrical technology, we enable superior product performance and differentiation in the marketplace. Our engine systems precisely manage air and fuel delivery, power response, and aftertreatment processes to optimise performance and minimise emissions. Our battery management systems incorporate advanced algorithms for State of Charge (SoC), State of Health (SoH), and State of Function (SoF), ensuring functional safety and efficient energy management. These systems seamlessly integrate with powertrain controllers, chargers, and machine controls. We also develop fully integrated machine systems that govern every aspect of construction equipment operation, from engine and transmission control to electric powertrains and hydraulics. These systems provide intuitive human-machine interfaces, monitor real-time diagnostics and prognostics, and enable automation, enhanced productivity, and improved serviceability.

We also operate a conditional offer process; our highest performing placement students are fast tracked to our graduate development scheme. This includes a financial incentive and the potential of a summer work placement. Offers will be made based on the condition that a graduate role is available at the time of your graduation and that you achieve a min of 2:2.
**Job duties/responsibilities will include but are not limited to:**
During your placement you will have the opportunity to work with teams focused on the integration, development, application and validation of electrical and electronic control systems for diesel engine, electric drivetrain or construction equipment products. You will be an active team member working on real development projects, alongside experienced engineers, gaining exposure to:
+ system specifications
+ embedded software design and development
+ control system modelling and analysis
+ component selection and validation
+ system level development and validation
+ product health analysis or quality issue resolution
You will also collaborate with team members worldwide as part of the global team. Working with experienced technical team leaders and mentors you will receive all the coaching, guidance and support for your work, personal development and professional accreditation.

+ Applicants will be on target to achieve a minimum of 2:2 honours degree level in a relevant discipline – Aeronautical, Aerospace, Agricultural, Automotive, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, Control Systems, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Maths and Physical Sciences.
You will also require excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact regularly with customers and colleagues within the Caterpillar global team. Travel to customer sites within Europe may be required.
**Additional Info**
+ This role is based from the office in Peterborough and will require 5 days per week on site.
**Recruitment Process Guidelines:**

**Online Application:** The first stage of the process is to complete the online application and attach your CV, this must be done before the closing date of the role that you're applying for. Once we reach the close date, we will begin reviewing all our applications, this may take a little while and we will contact you as soon as possible to let you know if you have been successful in moving forward to the next stage.
**Stage one – Video Interview:** If selected, you will be invited to complete a user-friendly video interview which will then be reviewed by the Hiring Team. At this stage, if you are successful, you will be invited to attend an Assessment Centre which we anticipate will be held week commencing 24th November 2025. We would also recommend that you check your spam emails and your Workday account for updates.
**Stage two - Assessment Centre:** The Assessment Centre Day will look at a range of behaviors such as teamwork, decision-making, communication, and problem-solving. We aim to make these days fun, inclusive and as relaxed as possible.
**Stage three – Offer:** After the Assessment Centre, the Caterpillar team will review the feedback and extend offers to our preferred candidates, we aim to do this as quickly as possible.
