Job Description
As an Electrical Designer, you will evaluate and apply relevant building codes and standards, review and prepare electrical power distribution layouts, and conduct electrical system load analyses. You will design and review lighting layouts, create fire alarm and life-safety system layouts, and coordinate specialized electrical systems. Your role involves conducting site investigations, collaborating with CAD/Revit teams, developing schematic designs, and managing construction documentation.
ResponsibilitiesEvaluate and apply relevant building codes and standards.Review and prepare electrical power distribution layouts and equipment sizing.Conduct and review electrical system load analyses, panel schedules, and single-line diagrams.Design and review lighting layouts and perform photometric calculations.Create fire alarm and life-safety system layouts.Coordinate and assess communications, security, audiovisual, and other specialized electrical systems.Conduct site investigations to document existing conditions and project requirements.Collaborate with CAD/Revit teams to produce detailed drawings in AutoCAD and Revit.Develop schematic designs or implement conceptual plans provided by lead engineers.Review shop drawings and address contractor RFIs throughout construction.Draft site instructions and contemplated change notices to formalize project adjustments.Evaluate contractor quotations and progress-draw requests.Participate in regular construction site reviews to monitor and verify progress.Examine close-out documentation, including as-built drawings and O&M manuals.Compile technical reports and develop project specifications.Maintain and organize digital CAD/BIM file databases for each project.Conduct research, support standards development, and complete training as directed by management.Essential SkillsProficiency in AutoCAD and Revit for electrical design/drafting.2–4 years of hands-on electrical design experience in building projects.Experience in any 2 of the following: distribution systems in buildings/facilities, sizing of systems, fire alarm/emergency systems in facilities.Bachelor’s degree/College diploma in Electrical Engineering/Design.Understanding of Medium Voltage systems (600 V and under).Familiarity with Ontario Building Code (OBC) and Ontario Electrical Safety Code.Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and willingness to travel 1–2 times per week for site reviews.Additional Skills & QualificationsQualifying for reliability security clearance.Knowledge of energy-efficiency requirements under SB10 of the OBC.Familiarity with MGS & OPS standards for critical systems.Exposure to IES lighting and AGI32 photometric modeling for high-quality light design.Work Environment
Initially, work onsite at the North York Office for the first 90 days. Afterward, transition to a hybrid schedule with 3 days on-site and 2 days from home. The company comprises 30–32 professionals, with an electrical group consisting of 2 engineers and 4 designers. Enjoy a flexible schedule with 9-hour days from Monday to Thursday and half-days on Fridays. Typically, expect 1 site visit per week for new designs or construction reviews, and possibly 2 visits during busy periods. Mileage for travel is reimbursed.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $35.00 - $44.00/hr.
