Job Description

AECOM has a position available for an Electrical Designer to support our growing US Energy Practice. AECOM offers the freedom and flexibility to work remotely and/or be located at a variety of Energy offices located in multiple locations across the United States.

Our team provides a wide range of electrical engineering services across markets sectors including industrial facilities (mining, water treatment, Oil and Gas, Power Generation) transmission (substations, OH/UG transmission systems, generator interconnections, interconnection strategy), power distribution (OH/UG power systems, substations, EV charging networks, microgrid design, etc.), renewables (Solar PV, Battery Energy Storage Systems, Wind), and next generation energy (hydrogen, fuel cells, electrolyzers, etc.). 

The successful candidate will have a strong understanding and experience in electrical design and technology principles. She/he will be expected to work successfully within a team environment and be able to communicate effectively with other project team members and customers. He/she will have a high level of initiative, motivation, and displays drive, energy and enthusiasm for getting things done with an excellent attention to detail.

The responsibilities of this role also include, but may not be limited to, the following:

Ability to take general direction, simple sketches from engineers, client and company standards, design criteria to then develop and progress through all stages of design – feasibility through detail designDay to day design and preparation of electrical deliverables to achieve efficient facility design considering constructability, safety and costEquipment general arrangements, one lines, schematics, plans (grounding, lighting, cable tray, power, instrument), wiring diagrams, installation details etc.Function as Electrical CAD lead on all small to medium projectsPrepare bills of materials and quantity take offsEmploy a variety of data sources to build project model environment including but not limited to laser scan, vendor files, existing base surfaces from LiDAR, survey points and contours.Detailed understanding of coordinate systems and the ability to transform data from one system to anotherData management (e.g. vendor data, client data) through the project life cycleApplies strong knowledge of industry standards, guides, specifications, and procedures specific to working in with US electrical and instrument infrastructure and networks at industrial facilitiesEnsure that the technical and safety standards are maintained in all aspects of design workCollaborate effectively with US and international design staff to create quality deliverablesParticipate in site field visits and walk downsMeeting with clients for project kickoff, ongoing design review, and project close out.Performs both routine and non-routine, complex design assignments that require judgment in resolving issues or making recommendationsMaintain open communication with project team (including remote staff) regarding workload planning, task estimating and budgetingCreating, updating, and implementing group specific standardsContributes to a complete and integrated set of digital project content which includes but not limited to identification of discipline and vendor interfaces, clashes, etc. by working co-operatively with team members to resolve issuesAssist with preparation of project specification and contract documentsAbility to check and verify work prepared by peer/group

 

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

BA/BS + 4 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or educationHigh level design and CAD skills and technical competency in the field of electrical engineeringPhysical design experience on complex multi-disciplinary projectsDemonstrated experience in AutoCAD 3D modeling environments

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Adaptability and fervent curiosity in learning new software and applicationsExperience creating drawings (e.g. power plans, wiring schematics) with limited direction from engineering teamExperience utilizing and integrating data sets into 3D model (e.g. laser scans, LiDAR, etc.)Experience in Plant3D, CadWorx, Revit, ReCapExperience working in collaborative model environments (e.g. Navisworks)Experience in the management of Common Data Environments including ProjectWise, BIM 360Experience with field walk downs2+ yrs experience as project technical electrical design leadStrong experience leveraging laser scan or other data sets to inform design developmentKnowledge of typical stakeholders and be able to anticipate data requests and expectationsUnderstanding of vendor documentation and it’s use as a reference for assigned tasksDemonstrated experience in participating complex, multi-discipline programs/projects and CAD teamsComprehensive knowledge of industry (incl safety) standards (e.g. NEC/NFPA 70, OSHA 1910)
