GENERAL SUMMARY: The EKG technician responsibilities include preparing patients for EKG procedures, ensuring proper electrode placement, monitoring patient comfort, and accurately capturing and recording EKG results.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Ability to perform all job duties associated with an EKG:

Performs Standard EKG’s

Identifies “abnormal” EKG’s and contacts physicians when appropriate

Downloads EKG’s to MUSE

Verifies and completes orders in the EMR

Faxes Pediatric EKGs when appropriate

Sorting of EKG’s  and Requisitions

Disconnects, cleans and returns EKG machines to patient care areas upon completion of use.

Maintains equipment and supplies within the patient care areas.

Provides quality patient care by considering the age specific, development and cultural needs through competent clinical practice.  Demonstrates unit/area competencies. Maintains good rapport and cooperative relationships. Approaches conflict in a constructive manner. Helps to identify problems, offer solutions, and participate in their resolution.

Maintains the confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patient, physicians, colleagues, and visitors to Trinity Health. Discusses patient and hospital information only among appropriate personnel in appropriately private places.

Behaves in accordance with the Code of Conduct, Service Excellence Standards, and the Mission, Vision and Values of Trinity Health.

Assumes responsibility for performance of job duties in the safest possible manner, to assure personal safety and that of coworkers, and to report all preventable hazards and unsafe practices immediately to management.

Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE

Education:

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience:

Previous EKG experience preferred.

Certification/Licensure:

BLS required upon hire.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Must be able to read and write English at a high school level. Must be able to work under stressful situations, remain calm, work at a fast pace while maintaining accuracy in work. Must be able to stand, bend and twist at the waist, and be able to walk long distances. Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely with various health care team members and patients.
