EHS Specialist

JOB TITLE: EHS Specialist

Key Responsibilities:

Support PSM and Environmental Health & Safety programs - will provide expertise on safety, health and environment to line management. Write and maintain standards, compile reports and submit to various regulatory agencies. Provide technical and regulatory EHSS guidance for programs including non-hazardous and hazardous waste, wastewater management, air emissions, hazard communication, injury and illness prevention, industrial hygiene, lab safety, emergency preparedness, facilities / contractor safety, and pollution prevention.Develop, implement, deliver and track effective training programs.Lead job hazard analysis assessments and new equipment and / or process safety reviews. Monitor closure of action items.Implement and coordinate the site emergency response plan.Provide effective Incident Response and follow up.Oversee and conduct Incident Investigation and Root Cause Analysis.Ensure injury and illness cases are effectively managed to closure and preventive measures are identified, communicated, and implemented.Participate in EHSS inspection program and track corrective action items to completion.Support annual environmental permit submissions, assist with preparation of regulatory reports (wastewater, hazardous materials business plans, air district reports etc.).Participate in EHSS audits as appropriate.

Job Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in science, safety or environmental management.Thorough knowledge of federal, state and local EHSS regulations.Professional Certification: ASP/CSP, CMMS or other certifications a plus.Minimum 3-5 years of experience in an environmental, health, safety or related discipline.Preferred experience working with PSM.Experience in implementing and sustaining OH&S programs strongly preferred.Demonstrated ability to recognize, evaluate, and recommend controls for workplace hazards.Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to interact with outside regulatory agencies.Demonstrated proficiency with computer applications, including word processing, spreadsheet, and slide presentations required.Experience with behavior-based safety and root cause investigation techniques as well as delivering safety training and maintaining accurate records.Respirator certified and be able to wear protective equipment required during emergency response to a chemical spill an asset.Able to work flexible hours and/or overtime when needed.Frequently required to conduct production floor and warehouse visits to perform inspections, drills, EHSS audits and may serve as an incident commander in ERT activities all of which may require prolonged standing or walking, negotiation of obstacles and bending or stooping during.Travel may be required – up to 10% annually.
