EHS Specialist

Job Summary

The EHS Specialist coordinates activities and verifies the proper execution of required Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) programs at the site, with a specific focus on contractor safety administration and execution of safe work procedures. This role supports the implementation of several health & safety programs, conducts audits and evaluations for compliance, and engages with all personnel to cultivate a strong EHS culture.

ResponsibilitiesWorkplace Safety

- Support site policies, programs, and permits for high-risk activities (e.g., lockout tagout, working at height, confined space entry, hot work, electrical work).

- Ensure a compliant permit to work program with effective job planning and approval processes.


Contractor Safety

- Manage and/or support contractor prequalification, onboarding, training, and inspection programs to ensure compliance with IFF EHS requirements.

- Participate in capital project design reviews to ensure proper EHS considerations during design, construction, and commissioning phases.

Emergency Planning & Response

- Support the site emergency response and action plan.

- Verify readiness through drills, critiques, and exercises.

- Coordinate with local fire departments and support site emergency teams.

Auditing & Compliance

- Lead internal and corporate audits to confirm site EHS compliance with policies and regulatory requirements.

- Support additional audits, inspections, and certifications involving EHS management systems.
 

Risk Assessment & Control

- Facilitate area and task-specific risk assessments.

- Work with area leaders to prescribe appropriate control


Requirements
Education:

- Bachelor's degree in environmental science or related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

- ASP, CSP or equivalent certifications preferred.

Experience:

- Minimum 2 years of experience in site EHS programs, EHS compliance auditing or inspections and interaction with regulatory agencies.

Skills:

- Excellent planning and organization, knowledge of EHS programs, data management, communication, critical thinking, relationship-building and adaptability
