Position Summary The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) is seeking a dynamic and technically savvy Learning Lab Manager to lead the daily operations of our instructional labs and support a thriving learning culture. This position isn’t just about managing equipment—it’s about cultivating a space where students feel inspired, included, and learning is engaging.

About the RoleAs the Learning Lab Manager, you’ll be the central hub connecting the human and technical elements in our teaching labs. You’ll oversee critical lab infrastructure, help guide student employees, and ensure our labs remain cutting-edge and welcoming. This is a unique opportunity to support the culture of our learning environments while engaging in the technical backbone of the ECE curriculum.

Key Responsibilities Foster a Supportive Learning Culture: Create a welcoming, inclusive, and accessible environment for all students using ECE labs. Oversee Lab Operations: Manage and maintain lab equipment, plan for short- and long-term equipment and software needs, and ensure technical alignment with the curriculum. Lead Student Employees: Train and supervise student workers each term, ensuring they understand lab equipment, safety protocols, FERPA guidelines, and tutoring principles. Collaborate Across Teams: Work closely with faculty, department staff, vendors, and IT professionals (including the College of Engineering’s Computer Action Team) to interpret technical and instructional needs within university policies. Support the EPL: Team up with EPL Manager to support to users and student employees of the Electronics Prototyping Lab. Recruit and Onboard Student Employees: Assist in reviewing applications and hiring students into support roles for labs and courses.

Minimum Qualifications from Classification This classification requires a basic foundation of knowledge and skills of technology and information systems generally obtained through an AA degree in computer science, information systems, educational technology, communications, or related fields, or similar certified course work in applicable fields of study and at least one year of related work experience. Additionally, applicants should be motivated by learning- both their own and fostering learning in those around them. Preferred Qualifications BSEE degree and 5 years of experience, or MSEE degree, and knowledge of ECE coursework and the skills necessary for successful lab support.

A background or interest in creating and supporting learning cultures is encouraged. This can include work in Trauma Informed Organizations, High Reliability Organizations, or other skills building in these areas.

Work Days/Hours M-F, 8 hours/day, schedule TBD but likely: 0830-1700, 3 days week, 1030-1900, 2 days week. Total Compensation Range & Benefits Statement The starting annual salary rate for this position will be between $47,424 and $56,916. The starting salary may be negotiable above this range, however it will be dependent upon the knowledge, experience, skills and abilities of the chosen candidate, the budget of the hiring department, and approval from HR.
