Pantheon Books is seeking an editorial assistant to join its team. The assistant's role would be to provide administrative and editorial support to an Editor and an Editor at Large on an impressive list of books in fiction, nonfiction, and graphics.
Pantheon was founded in 1942 by Helen and Kurt Wolff, and began by publishing literature in translation. In the post-war decades, Pantheon emerged as the premiere home to major works of cultural commentary by such authors as Studs Terkel, Marguerite Duras and Simone de Beauvoir. Today its star-studded roster of award-winning authors include Wole Soyinka, Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah, James Gleick, Margo Jefferson, Ha Jin, Laila Lalami, Ali Smith, Alexander McCall Smith, Heather Ann Thompson, Charles Yu, Chris Ware, Marjane Satrapi, and Art Spiegelman.
The ideal candidate will be able to manage a diverse set of responsibilities efficiently and has a strong interest in genre-bending hybrid works, graphic novels, novels in translation, and smart narrative nonfiction.
Specific responsibilities include:
· Evaluating manuscripts, writing reader’s reports, logging submissions, and drafting rejection letters.
· Scheduling, project management and general support for managers.
· Writing and editing catalog, flap, and marketing copy for in-house and out-of-house promotional use
· Preparing title information sheets and other marketing materials.
· Liaising with authors, publishers, agents, and the managing editorial department to coordinate and keep track of the production process from finished manuscript to bound book.
· Creating P&Ls and contract information sheets, collecting sales data, and providing competitive title research.
· Providing general administrative support, including answering phones, taking messages, booking conference rooms, filing expense reports, routing author payments, keeping track of project due dates, executing mailings, and fielding questions from authors.

This is a Hybrid role. We will consider candidates who can work from a commutable distance to our offices at 1745 Broadway, which includes the tri-state area (NJ, CT, & PA).
The salary for this position is $51,000. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.
