Position OverviewUnited Health Services is seeking an Emergency Department (ED) Scribe to assist physicians and advanced practice providers with real-time documentation during patient encounters. In this fast-paced role, you will accurately transcribe patient histories, physical exams, diagnostic results, and treatment plans into the electronic medical record (EMR), allowing providers to focus more directly on patient care.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, dependable, and interested in a future healthcare career. A high school diploma or equivalent is required; prior experience or training in medical terminology, healthcare documentation, or clinical settings is preferred. $17.05 - $22.17 per hour, depending on experience

Job ResponsibilitiesCompletes necessary communication for patient processing, including answering multi-line telephone system, scheduling patient appointments, recording and relaying information to staff, patients, and other customers.Completes registration of all new patients, including identifying and completing demographic and insurance verification.Ensures authorization for insurance is obtained prior to patient’s initial visit, and continued authorization for additional treatment sessionsSchedules patient evaluation appointments and subsequent treatment sessionsManages outpatient scheduling for clinicians dailyPrepares patient medical record prior to initial visit, and assists with ongoing medical record managementPerforms daily billingCompiles departmental statistics daily and reports to Administrative Secretary on a monthly basisTracks and assists with documentation and claims processing for Medicare and Workers’ Compensation claims to ensure reimbursement of rehab services.Assists HIM in processing medical record requests and ensures authorization to release patient informationCollects and processes co-payments from patients when applicableTypes monthly departmental staff meeting minutes and distributes to appropriate staff.Has knowledge of and participates in departmental and organizational initiatives for performance improvement (PI).Demonstrates knowledge of hospital and departmental infection control policies.Position Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent; knowledge of general office procedures and strong computer skills.

Preferred

Experience as a medical receptionist; knowledge of insurance applicable to outpatient medical care.

Basic knowledge of principles and procedures for physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech and language pathology and cardiac rehabilitation.
