HumeLink West Project
Two CIMIC Group companies, UGL and CPB Contractors have been selected by Transgrid to deliver the 130km western section of the HumeLink high voltage electricity transmission project.
HumeLink is a new 500kV transmission project which will connect Wagga Wagga, Maragle and Bannaby in regional NSW that will significantly increase the capacity of the electricity network in Australia’s eastern states. HumeLink is one of Australia’s largest energy infrastructure projects, with about 365kms of proposed new transmission lines and a range of other new and upgraded infrastructure.
The HumeLink West scope of works, worth $1.4bn, includes delivery of new 500kV double circuit transmission lines spanning ~140kms from Wagga Wagga Substation to a new Substation at Gugaa, the Interface Point with HumeLink East near Gundagai and a new substation at Maragle in the Snowy Mountains for future connection to Snowy 2.0.

Key Accountabilities
We are seeking an experienced Ecologist to join the HumeLink West team. The position is responsible for:
Supporting the planning, construction, and operation phase of the project by ensuring compliance with environmental legislation, biodiversity management requirements, and sustainable land use practices.Carry out field surveys to identify and map threatened species, ecological communities, and critical habitats.Liaise with State Forestry authorities, local councils, traditional owner groups, and environmental regulators to coordinate access and approvals in forested areas.Prepare verification reports consistent with Biodiversity Assessment Method, environmental reports, monitoring summaries and compliance documentation for relevant stakeholdersAbout You
Tertiary qualifications in Ecology, Environmental Science, Botany, Zoology, or related disciplineMinimum 5 years’ relevant work experienceCertification/accreditation as a BAM (Biodiversity Assessment Method) assessorHold a Scientific Licence under Part 2 of the Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016 (including Animal Ethics Approval)Proficiency in ecological fieldwork, biodiversity assessments, and GIS mapping toolsKnowledge of NSW environmental legislation and biodiversity offsetting frameworksStrong communication and negotiation skills, particularly in multi-stakeholder environmentsCurrent driver’s licence and ability to travel to remote sites
Highly regarded:
Experience working on major infrastructure projects under NSW Infrastructure approvalsFamiliarity with cultural heritage protocols and working alongside Aboriginal stakeholdersThe successful candidate will be required to hold a current Construction Industry Induction Card (White Card or equivalent) and undergo a medical assessment (including drug and alcohol testing) prior to commencement.
Where applicable, evidence of tertiary qualifications and proof of right to work will be required prior to successful appointment.
