As Microsoft's cloud business continues to grow the ability to deploy new offerings and hardware infrastructure on time, in high volume with high quality and lowest cost is of paramount importance. To achieve this goal, the Hardware, Infrastructure Management, and Fundamentals Engineering (HIFE) team is instrumental in defining and delivering operational measures of success for hardware manufacturing, improving the planning process, quality, delivery, scale and sustainability related to Microsoft cloud hardware. We are looking for seasoned engineers with a dedicated passion for customer focused solutions, insight and industry knowledge to envision and implement future technical solutions that will manage and optimize the Cloud infrastructure.
We are looking for an experienced Hardware Engineer who will be responsible to drive Design for Environmental & Ecodesign, ensuring that all Microsoft Cloud Hardware satisfy worldwide Environmental regulatory requirements. Regulations include Ecodesign, RoHS, REACH, PFAS, WEEE, Battery, Packaging, etc.
The candidate will interact with Engineering, Supply Chain, Sourcing, Datacenter operations, and other external stakeholders in support to end to end part lifecycles, configuration management processes and Bill of Material structures.

**Responsibilities**
+ The Ecodesign Compliance engineer will be responsible for monitoring relevant worldwide legislation and environmental regulatory requirements and standards impacting equipment that is delivered and operating within Microsoft Cloud infrastructure.
+ This position will participate in hardware development projects ensuring products conform to environmental laws and regulations (RoHS, REACH, PFAS, WEEE, Battery, Packaging, Ecodesign and other emerging standards) in addition to Microsoft specifications and sustainability requirements.
+ Regularly sync with product teams, internal and external stakeholders, to communicate environmental requirements and target metrics.
+ Ensure accuracy and completeness of environmental documentation and confirm environmental markings are placed on the products and packaging as required.
+ Manage hardware compliance validation (chemical testing, review materials, substances, FMDs) to assure compliance to Microsoft and regulatory requirements.
+ Network with internal and external stakeholders to continually improve processes and specifications for Ecodesign and Environmental compliance.Actively seek and create opportunities for synergies across stakeholder groups to drive solutions and be proactive in identifying continuous improvement opportunities.
**Qualifications**
Required Qualifications:
+ Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field OR Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience OR equivalent experience.
+ 2+ years of relevant job experience and solid understanding of worldwide environmental regulations for electronic products and electronic product packaging.
+ Experiencein managing engineering projects, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to budget and quality standards.
+ Demonstrated success as a collaborative team player with a proactive, self-starting attitude. Able to work independently with minimal supervision, while maintaining strong organizational skills and consistent follow-through on tasks.
+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to effectively engage and collaborate with engineering teams across technical discussions and project updates.
+ Demonstrable experience in collaborating across global operations, internal and external stakeholders, engineering teams and senior leadership.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Experience in tracking certification and regulatory requirements through participation in Industry associations and Standard committees
+ Familiarization of industrial standards (e.g. EPEAT, ISTA), and certifications (e.g., CE, BSMI, FSC, PEFC) related to Ecodesign and packaging.
+ Experience with lifecycle assessment (LCA) tools and methodologies.
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
