About the service

The mother and baby unit at HMP Askham Grange provides a vital service by offering a designated living accommodation where mothers can stay with their children. This supported environment allows families to maintain their bond during challenging times. The unit is staffed by trained nursery nurses and carefully selected prison officers, ensuring that mothers receive the necessary support while fostering a nurturing atmosphere for their children. This unique service plays an essential role in promoting the well-being of both mothers and their little ones during their time in the prison system.
