Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company ('SpinCo') comprised of most of NBCUniversal's cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and Golf Channel along with complementary digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. Job DescriptionNBC 6 and Telemundo 51 are looking for a Multiplatform Managing Editor to help craft and execute the strategic vision of our duopoly news operation in South Florida. We are looking for a strong, bilingual journalist who will coordinate the work of the desk, reporters and producers on breaking news and the big stories of the day in both English and Spanish. The role requires someone who will take a hands-on approach to daily and ongoing news coverage to ensure we are pursuing the most relevant angles on appropriate platforms and sharing duopoly resources. This is a key management role that reports directly to the VP of News for both stations.
Primary Responsibilities:
Identify, communicate and track the most important angles of the biggest stories of the day on multiple platforms.React to breaking news with urgency and accuracy by coordinating the response of news staff on all platforms.Manage the journalists on the assignment desk.Collaborate with assignment desk editors, producers, reporters, photographers and multiplatform producers on story development and storytelling.Copy edit and approve scripts for all platforms in Spanish and English for grammar, clarity, accuracy, creativity and adherence to NBCUniversal legal and standards guidelines.Help guide news staff in journalism best practices and content showcasing on all platforms.Collaborate with the journalists for both stations to ensure stories are properly covered on all platforms and that the team is meeting and exceeding multiplatform expectations.Oversee short-and long-term planning for content, both breaking news and enterprise, and drive team coverage of big breaking stories and weather.Ensure public records are being requested and tracked on major stories.Lead planning of big events and big story coverage.Work with duopoly investigative team on stories and scripts.Partner with creative services and news management to coordinate promotions efforts. QualificationsB.A. degree or equivalent in areas such as Journalism & Communications, or related field.Minimum of five years of experience producing newscasts in a medium or large market.Bilingual Spanish/English both written and spoken.Must possess strong journalistic skills, have ability to write and edit broadcast and digital text and video scripts.Creative approach to storytelling and problem solving.Ability to make priority decisions under deadlines.Must be self-directed, highly organized and detail oriented.Must function well in a fast paced, multi-cultural environmentMust have a valid Driver’s LicenseRequirements:
