Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Ensemble Department is seeking a drummer to accompany students in ensemble classes. The drummer will act as part of the "house band" for regularly scheduled Ensemble Department classes and periodic additional accompanying assignments for recitals, concerts, auditions, and special events.

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s Degree in Music (preferred, but not required)

Strong musical background in a wide range of styles

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Act as "house band" for regularly scheduled Ensemble Department classes.

Participate in Ensemble and/or additional rehearsals.

Accompany Visiting Artists' concerts, clinics, and workshops.

Assist students and faculty during class time.

Some nights/weekends may be required

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Excellent sight-reading skills and musicianship, particularly in terms of groove

Background in all contemporary styles

Complete technical command of the drum set

Sensitivity to the needs of vocalists and other instrumentalists

Ability to cultivate a supportive learning environment

Promote a climate of respect for personal and cultural differences

Value ethical behavior in all aspects of personal and professional life

Self-critical, questioning, and committed to personal excellence and self-improvement

Demonstrate willingness to take on big challenges and see them throug
