Job Description:
The Driver Trainer is responsible for developing, delivering, and assessing driver training programmes to ensure all UPS drivers in the UK meet statutory, operational, and company-specific requirements for safe and competent driving. This role is crucial in maintaining UPS's high standards of safety, efficiency, and customer service.

What you'll do:
Deliver Driver Training:
Conduct comprehensive training for both novice and experienced drivers across all vehicle types (e.g., vans, HGVs/LGVs) and driving disciplines in accordance with UPS's safe driving methods and policies (e.g., Integrad curriculum).
Utilise a variety of training methods, including classroom instruction, 3D computer simulations, webcast learning modules, and practical on-road training.
Provide expert guidance and hands-on coaching to develop driver skills, enhance safety awareness, and improve driving efficiencies.
Curriculum Development & Maintenance:
Design, update, and maintain up-to-date driver course materials, including training literature, presentations, and assessment tools, in line with legislative changes and company best practices.
Stay informed of changes in driving legislation (e.g., DVSA regulations, CPC requirements) and industry best practices, making recommendations for curriculum adjustments.
Assessment and Feedback:
Assess driving standards through practical and theoretical evaluations, providing constructive feedback to drivers to facilitate continuous improvement.
Identify individual and collective training needs and develop tailored interventions.
Maintain accurate and detailed records of driver competence, training completed, and assessment results.
Safety and Compliance:
Champion a strong safety culture within the organisation, ensuring drivers adhere to all safety protocols and company guidelines.
Be responsible for the safety and conduct of students and resources during training and assessment sessions (e.g., daily vehicle checks, maintenance of training vehicles).
Contribute to the overall safety performance of the fleet by reducing incidents and promoting proactive safety behaviours.
Mentorship and Support:
Act as a mentor to new and developing drivers, providing ongoing support and guidance beyond initial training.
Offer expert knowledge and advice to drivers and operational teams regarding driving standards and safety.
Administration and Reporting:
Establish and maintain effective administrative systems for training records.
Manage the collection, maintenance, and integrity of data within training systems.
Prepare reports on training effectiveness, driver performance, and compliance.
Continuous Professional Development:
Maintain a high level of personal driving skill and knowledge.
Engage in continuous professional development (CPD) in subject matter areas as directed by organisational requirements, including "train-the-trainer" classes.
What you'll need:
Essential:
Proven experience as a professional driver, ideally within a multi-drop or logistics environment.
Strong understanding of UK driving laws and regulations (e.g., Road Traffic Act, Working Time Directive, Tachograph regulations if applicable).
Excellent driving record with a full Clean UK Driving license
Demonstrable experience in delivering training or coaching adults.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and motivate diverse groups of learners.
Ability to design and produce high-quality training materials.
Proficiency in IT systems, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and potentially learning management systems.
Self-motivated, organised, and able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Flexibility to travel to various UPS locations across the UK as required for training delivery.
Desirable:
Recognised teaching or training qualification (e.g., Level 3 teaching qualification, PTLLS/AET).
Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) qualification from the DVSA.
Experience as an Emergency Response Driving Instructor (if applicable to specific roles).
A clean C1 or C (HGV/LGV) driving license with relevant CPC qualification.
Experience with advanced driving techniques (e.g., defensive driving, eco-driving).
