Drilling Performance Engineer
Halliburton
Drilling Performance Engineer
Date: Apr 30, 2025
Location:
Stavanger, 11, NO, 4065
Halliburton is one of the pioneers within real time operations and engineering and have participated in the development of the Norwegian continental shelf since the first test well in 1966.
As the capability of our technology portfolio increases and subsequently the amount of usable data in identifying drilling related dysfunction, we need to be well placed to use this data to improve drilling performance, reduce non-productive time and execute our value proposition.
With the energy’s industry’s transition into digital platforms, automation and machine learning so must our contribution and application of these technologies to reduce the carbon footprint of the industry and deliver leading class well performance.
The Well Delivery engineer will utilize best in class engineering tools, software combined with competency to deliver our value proposition. The adoption of both internal and external digital technologies will help our customers realize their assets in a safer, greener and more cost effective method.
This is a fantastic career development opportunity for technically minded individuals to demonstrate a multi-disciplinary approach to problem solving where the technical domains of drillstring integrity, wellbore hydraulics, geology, bit design, bottom hole assembly design and digitalization are considered as a holistic system to understand the complex relationships. This position is seen as a development role prior to transitioning in to Drilling Technical Advisor job track.
We are looking for motivated personnel to take on this challenge where the ability to effectively communicate and facilitate technical dialogue both internally and externally is a key requirement.
Responsibilities:
The responsibilities for this position can be broken down in alignment with the Sperry Drilling Control Point Verification Work Method (WM-GL-HAL-SD-001A).
Control Point – 1 (Design of Service)
+ Aid the Drilling Technical Advisor in the preparation of the offset analysis / risk assessment based on learning from relevant offset wells.
+ Actively participate in the Pre-Design of Service and Design of Service reviews
+ Optimize well trajectory in collaboration with the Engineering Team to ensure previous lessons learned are considered to optimize the drilling system.
+ Apply the organizations “digital-toolkit” to improve the well planning both in terms of efficiency and risk mitigation.
Control Point – 3 (Execution)
+ Monitor the well performance and provide interventions in the event of drilling related dysfunction.
+ Track the performance of the “digital twin” and log where and when deviations occur and require an in-depth investigation during the post section review.
+ Ensure real-time digital road-maps are accurate and intervene in the event of a deviation from plan based on the actual inputs.
Control Point – 4 (Job Close Out)
+ Perform post section analysis to identify area of opportunity in drilling practices, bit and bottom hoe assembly design and create corrective actions in consultation with the Drilling Technical Advisor
+ Clearly identify where and when deviation from the digital twin occurred and why. Update the digital model if required to facilitate continuous improvement.
+ Present findings and recommendations both internally and externally
This position requires excellent communication skills to effectively articulate technical information, engineering outputs and the ability to manage digital interfaces. To deliver our value proposition, the candidates need to facilitate our “listen and respond” methodology to ensure we foster a collaborative working environment that is integral to a continuous improvement culture.
Effective presentation skills are another key requirement for the position as one of the primary deliverables from the “post run analysis” responsibility is to communicate the findings in such a way as to gain alignment with experienced technical stakeholders both in Halliburton and with our customers. This position is based in a customer’s office in Stavanger.
