SUMMARY OF POSITION:
This position is accountable for preparing clear, accurate working drawings for use by other departments and shop personnel in the construction of railroad tank cars and their components.
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Prepare clear and accurate working drawingsPrepare detailed sub-assembly and assembly drawings from instructions provided by the Drafting Supervisor, Designer, Product Engineer, or Chief Product EngineerLead by example and support company initiatives and goalsMeet internal and external customer expectationsThe incumbent must lead by example and ensure that safety comes before all else. The incumbent works to epitomize Union Tank Car’s Quality Policy and to meet internal and external customer expectations at all times by fully applying oneself to the task involved, preventing errors, and developing and implementing personal quality improvement projects. In addition, the incumbent is required to understand the Responsible Care Management System and actively participate in activities outlined therein. The incumbent will support the company and employee values as well as support company’s initiatives.

High school diploma or equivalentMinimum of 2 years’ of CAD drafting experienceCompletion of technical school drafting program or college degree may be considered in lieu of practical experienceWorking knowledge of all MS OfficeWorking knowledge of computer aided drafting software (MicroStation and Solid Edge are preferred)ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Prepares clear and accurate working drawings for use by other departments and shop personnel in the construction of railroad tank cars and their components.Ensures quality designs by familiarizing themselves with all UTLX engineering practices and governing agency regulations.Ensures the rapid completion of drawings without sacrificing clarity and accuracy.Prepares clear, accurate layout and working drawings in a timely manner.Maintains an awareness of department, trade association, governmental and Company scheduling requirements and advises personnel of procedural or system changes required to ensure quality standards are maintained and schedules are met.Analyzes current techniques for possible improvements and works with others to propose ideas/changes that impact productivity, performance, and cost savings.Please note the duties listed are not set forth for purposes of limiting the assignment of work.
