Job Overview:This role is part of our Project Engineering design team and the successful candidate will participate with engineering to design mechanical and packaged systems for interface to existing steam, hydro, and gas turbine equipment as well as industrial sector balance of plant equipment as part of overall controls conversions, modifications, and upgrades. You will focus on executing customer orders scope in this discipline and providing appropriate technical support to order execution functions including controls engineering, global supply chain, project management, field services, and customers.
Under limited supervision, investigates and procures all data required to develop engineering designs. Prepares preliminary sketches and/or schematic diagrams. Performs moderate to complex computer aided designs with emphasis on functionality, manufacturing and maintainability. Prepares designs having distinctive design features that can differ significantly from established drafting precedents. Employs the best combination of all preliminary information and contributing data to develop final design. Prepares layout, design and assembly drawings. Learns current manufacturing/business systems for basic cost, inventory and purchasing information. Handles special projects, as assigned.
Key Responsibilities:Apply knowledge of manufacturing practices and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) to produce high-quality and cost-effective mechanical and packaged systems designs using 3-dimensional solid modeling and 2-dimensional computer aided design (CAD) software. Experience with Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD preferred.Creation and maintenance of material masters and bills of material in the business information system (SAP) using engineering change management process.Provide customer support related to assigned projects and areas of expertise.Develop project engineering documentation suitable to meet customer and internal functional requirements.Develop instructions for product installation and commissioning for field services.Provide technical sales support for generation of customer proposals.Ensure compliance with internal processes and standards as well as industry technical regulations, standards, and other regulatory requirements.Occasional interaction with customers and suppliers required.Qualifications:Experienced draftsperson able to perform non-routine and complex items having distinctive design features that can differ significantly from established drafting precedents. Ability to apply thorough knowledge of engineering and drafting standards, codes and regulations affecting particular disciplines or drafting projects assigned.High School Diploma or equivalent. Associate Degree in Engineering Technology or related experience preferred. 3+ years of drafting experience.Designer experience in steam, hydro, or gas turbine auxiliary equipment and applicationsPrevious experience in equipment retrofit design.Ability to apply basic mechanical engineering principles to analyze, design and troubleshoot mechanical systems.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Results-oriented and able to complete tasks on schedule.Ability to proactively identify and resolve technical issues.Self-starter with ability to work with minimal supervision.Knowledge of machining practices, GD&T, design for manufacturability and lean manufacturingFamiliarity with Autodesk Inventor, Unigraphics, SolidWorks or similar solid modeling design softwareProficiency in the following additional software applications / platforms:Microsoft VisioMicrosoft WordMicrosoft ExcelMicrosoft OutlookMicrosoft Windows
