Job Summary:

Join our team and gain invaluable experience in providing support and advocacy services to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.

As a Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault Intern, you will have the opportunity to assist with the day-to-day operations and programming of our confidential emergency shelter, while developing a concrete understanding of domestic violence and successfully completing your learning objectives.

Under the guidance and mentorship of experienced advocates, you will contribute to creating a safe and supportive environment for women and children seeking shelter.

Your role will involve assisting in providing group or one-on-one advocacy, developing positive relationships with clients, creating personalized safety plans, and ensuring services are provided in accordance with agency policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist with the day-to-day operations and programming of the confidential emergency shelter

Provide group or one-on-one in-person advocacy to victims and survivors of domestic violence and their children, under the oversight and mentorship of an advocate

Develop positive and productive relationships with persons served

Assist in the creation of comprehensive personalized client safety plans Provide services in accordance with agency policies and procedures

Develop individual goals with your supervisor and strive to achieve these goals throughout the internship

Take initiative on shelter operations and advocacy tasks

Work independently while adhering to shelter rules and guidelines

Attend and actively participate in trainings

Complete required paperwork and documentation accurately, factually, and concisely

Assist survivors of domestic violence and their children in establishing and reaching goals

Perform data entry on client interactions

Provide crisis intervention to individuals and families

Identify and utilize your strengths in the program, working with the Volunteer Coordinator and Domestic Violence staff

Education and/or Experience Qualifications:

Currently enrolled at an accredited College or University

Additional Requirements:

Basic knowledge of domestic violence and sexual assault

Basic knowledge of trauma

Demonstrates good judgment and discernment in dealing with people

Capable of communicating ideas clearly and effectively

Demonstrates the ability to operate a computer and use Google applications

Effective time management skills

Demonstrates the ability to make decisions and problem-solve

Demonstrates the ability to work well independently and as a team player

Demonstrates the ability to resolve conflicts effectively
