Job Description
This position is situated within the Distribution Department and involves designing and reviewing overhead and underground distribution lines ranging from 4 kV to 69 kV. The role includes engineering and designing overhead, URD, re-conductoring, and asset replacement projects, as well as underground cable/conduit distribution design work packages. The engineer will ensure compliance with quality and consistency standards in completed designs and design products.
ResponsibilitiesDesign and review overhead and underground distribution lines from 4 kV to 69 kV.Develop overhead, URD, re-conductoring, and asset replacement projects, and underground cable/conduit work packages.Design complex distribution projects in urban and rural environments in compliance with engineering and construction specifications, including field engineering, identification of conflicting utilities, engineering and design calculations, and work permit development.Develop Point to Point (PtP) testing plans and lead field and office personnel in field testing.Coordinate small design teams to develop budgets, prepare scoping documents, design criteria, and project deliverables.Provide engineering assistance during construction, attend construction meetings, coordinate efforts, and engage in community outreach as needed.Review completed designs and design products to ensure compliance with quality and consistency standards.Lead, facilitate, and coordinate work activities within the work group, team, department, or externally to complete substation projects.Provide training and guidance to lower-level employees.Identify and initiate corrective actions when project objectives are not being met.Interpret codes and regulations and develop standards for construction projects.Promote engineering professionalism and standards.Develop, recommend, and implement plans by establishing goals, objectives, and requirements for complex engineering.Travel up to 30% of the time to client sites; travel duration may vary depending on project needs.Essential SkillsProficiency in AutoCAD and blueprint reading.Expertise in transformer and underground design.Experience in electrical design and power distribution.Familiarity with utilities and distribution design.Additional Skills & QualificationsEight+ years of experience with electric utility distribution design projects.Eight+ years of experience in overhead, URD, re-conductoring, and asset replacement projects, and underground cable/conduit distribution design work package development.Eight+ years of experience with complex overhead and underground distribution projects in urban and rural environments.Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET Accredited).Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET Accredited) counts towards years of experience.PE License is required.Work Environment
The work environment involves collaboration with small design teams and requires travel up to 30% of the time to client sites. The duration of travel may vary depending on project needs. The position demands adherence to engineering and construction specifications and standards, ensuring projects are completed efficiently and professionally.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $57.69 - $72.11/hr.
