Job Description
The Distribution Designer role involves providing design for overhead and/or underground electric distribution systems ranging from 4kV to 69kV. The position requires engaging in design activities, conducting quality reviews, maintaining project schedules, reporting changes, identifying risks, and presenting opportunities for improvement. Additionally, mentoring lower-level designers is an integral part of the role.
ResponsibilitiesDesign overhead and/or underground distribution facilities.Prepare design sketches, drawings, cost estimates, bills of material, and other necessary construction documents.Apply client's standards, guidelines, specifications, and industry standards in design preparation.Perform distribution system design calculations.Prepare and oversee construction design documents, including plan and profiles, structure loadings, design details, trench and conduit drawings, and equipment specifications.Communicate with clients and engineers on system requirements and identify Right of Way for proposed equipment.Acquire field data and collaborate with field surveying for appropriate design preparation.Promote and conduct quality reviews of designs to ensure compliance with design standards, safety requirements, and industry practices.Check and validate project drawings and those of peers.Essential SkillsMinimum of five years of experience in designing electric utility distribution systems within a consulting or utility environment.Proficiency in electrical design using AutoCAD or Microstation with at least five years of experience.Experience in using distribution design software for five years.Associate degree in applied science (AAS) in drafting and computer-aided (CAD) design or in civil, electrical, or mechanical engineering technology or equivalent experience and/or education.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience with Power Distribution and Utilities.Familiarity with tools such as Cad technician, Cad tech, AutoCAD, Microstation, Small World, Blue Print, Basemap, Easement, Scale, Transformer, and Underground.Work Environment
The role involves a dynamic work environment where distribution design is a primary focus. The use of technologies such as AutoCAD and Microstation is essential. Collaboration with team members and clients is a significant part of daily activities. The position may require occasional fieldwork to acquire necessary data for design preparation.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $34.50 - $34.50/hr.
