Job Description
The Distribution Designer is responsible for the design and construction work package development of electrical overhead and underground distribution systems operating from 4kV through 35kV. The role primarily involves programmatic work such as managing overloaded transformers, inspection and maintenance, joint use, and processing inspection reports. The position requires compliance with quality control and safe work practices, maintaining alignment with project scope, schedule, and budget, and reviewing field pole locations to create detailed drawings.
ResponsibilitiesDevelop construction work packages for electric distribution systems using various software systems and construction standards.Handle overhead, underground, or URD distribution environments.Participate in project work including joint use make ready and street light projects.Use Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools, Work Management Systems (WMS), and other client systems to develop work packages.Perform engineering calculations such as structural analysis of poles, guying, cable pulling, electric demand, fault currents, and coordination of protective devices.Prepare forestry trimming requests and facilitate permit and Right-of-Way acquisition.Develop Bill of Materials (BOM), estimate costs, and advocate for customers by acquiring easements or calculating Contribution in Aid of Construction (CIAC).Essential SkillsProficiency in distribution design and substation design.Experience with ARCFM, power distribution, and utility design.Ability to use GIS and CAD tools effectively.Competence in performing engineering calculations related to structural analysis, guying, cable pulling, and electric demand.Additional Skills & QualificationsInterest in developing construction work packages for electric distribution systems.Familiarity with joint use and street light projects.Knowledge of client systems and standards in distribution systems.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $60.00/hr.
