BlueScope Recycling is a full-service, ferrous scrap metal recycler with processing facilities in Waterloo, IN, Delta, OH, and Mansfield, OH. BlueScope Recycling buys scrap from industrial generators, wholesale suppliers, and the general public, focusing on delivering the highest level of service.

Summary:   

The Dispatcher II is responsible for managing complex logistics involving trucks and railcars, ensuring the efficient movement of materials, and providing mentorship to entry-level dispatchers. This role involves coordinating with drivers, customers, and operations teams while optimizing transportation processes and fostering professional growth among team members. 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

Transportation and Logistics Management: 

Oversee scheduling, routing, and dispatching of trucks and railcars to transport scrap materials. 

Ensure compliance with safety protocols, environmental regulations, and company policies. 

Monitor the status of shipments, addressing any delays or disruptions promptly. 

 

Mentorship and Training: 

Train entry-level dispatchers on industry best practices, safety standards, and company procedures. 

Provide ongoing guidance and support to team members, fostering their development and confidence in dispatching roles. 

Review team performance and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency and service quality. 

 

Operational Collaboration: 

Work closely with the yard and operations teams to coordinate material flow and align logistics with processing and storage capacity. 

Communicate effectively with drivers, ensuring assignment clarity and addressing any concerns or issues. 

 

Problem-Solving and Decision-Making: 

Handle complex logistics challenges, such as railcar coordination, high-volume scheduling, and unforeseen disruptions. 

Develop contingency plans to address equipment breakdowns, weather delays, or traffic disruptions. 

 

Administrative and Reporting Duties: 

Maintain accurate records of schedules, shipments, and transportation costs. 

Generate reports on logistics efficiency, driver performance, and railcar utilization. 

Use fleet management and logistics software to streamline operations and maintain compliance. 

 

Required Qualifications: 

High school diploma or equivalent (required 

3+ years of dispatching experience in logistics, transportation, or a related industry. 

3+ years experience managing railcar operations  

Experience training or mentoring team members 

Strong organizational and time-management skills. 

Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to lead and mentor effectively. 

Proficiency in fleet management software, GPS tools, and Microsoft Office Suite. 

Ability to analyze logistics data to make informed decisions and improve efficiency. 

 

Working Conditions: 

Primarily office-based with the potential for occasional yard visits. 

Regular working hours with occasional overtime during peak periods. 

 

Physical Requirements: 

Ability to sit for extended periods while working on a computer or phone. 

Occasional lifting of materials up to 10 pounds.
