Job Summary

Responsible for the effective planning, organization, implementation and operation of Grid Modernization technology at an applicable Operating Company. Grid Modernization may include, but is not limited to advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) and distribution automation circuit reconfiguration (DACR), and volt var optimization (VVO) advancements. Responsible with overseeing the vendor selection, engineering design, implementation and on-going maintenance of the new technology infrastructure. Coordinates with Project Management Office (PMO) all strategic project activities to ensure barriers to timely completion of projects are identified and appropriately resolved in order to implement projects within budget, on-schedule, maximize the customer experience and deliver benefits from the deployed technologies. Coordinate the deployment, maintenance and expansion strategies, regulatory approvals and ongoing reporting, training and support needed to maintain technology infrastructure.   Responsible for the development of asset strategy consistent with achieving AEP's corporate goals and objectives for the assigned territory including leadership and oversight of the development for the circuit reliability program, distribution system planning, T&D vegetation management, and initiating/planning distribution asset programs including the risk assessment/mitigation strategy.  Additionally, may be responsible for components and/or all of the effective planning, organization, implementation and operation of BU/OPCO's Risk Management Function.   

Job Description

What You'll Do:

Accountable for overseeing the distribution budget and financial forecasts.Tasked with creating a distribution reliability plan aimed at enhancing reliability metrics, including SAIDI and Perfect Power.Key role in ICS structure. Research and prepare business case for company investments in technology solutions for grid modernization to advance reliability improvement strategies and customer experience. Interpret and evaluate State PUC rules on AMI, DACR, and/or VVO and monitor legislative, regulatory and State market initiatives that could impact those rules.Develop a detailed deployment plan for AMI, DACR, VVO and/or other related grid modernization efforts at Operating Company, obtain regulatory approval, and oversee in a manner such that all costs are fully recovered.Supervise and coordinate the engineering, design and/or preparation of specifications for the procurement of equipment, systems and services associated with grid modernization.File regulatory status reports as required, communicate as needed with PUC staff and represent Operating Company in all legislative, regulatory and State market matters related to grid technology infrastructure.Development of rate case testimony.Supervise the preparation of cost estimates, analyses and studies necessary for AMI, DACR, VVO and/or other related grid modernization efforts implementation and enhancements.Research and select the appropriate technology and vendor(s) for application at Operating Company.Monitor technology advancements and implement as appropriate.Coordinate system integration of meter data management system, CIS, OMS and Web portal both initially and during any upgrade or system replacement.Provide necessary support information to Distribution engineering and operations groups.May lead risk assessment activities within OPCO including initiatives pertaining to ERM, ORM and business continuity & resiliency to assure alignment with AEP enterprise risk tolerance.Integrate and optimize funding and projects related to distribution system planning, asset management, vegetation management (both T & D), and worst performing circuit programs.Monitor customer data to ensure AEP reliability programs are having the desired effect of decreasing customer reliability complaints and increasing overall customer satisfaction.

What We're Looking For:

Education:

Bachelor's degree required in engineering, engineering technology, business administration or related discipline.  

Experience:

Ten (10) or more years' electric utility experience in distribution, metering and billing systems; OR 8 years total utility industry experience, including at least 2 years’ experience working with smart grid technology deployments, power quality resolution, or protection and control, as well as a detailed understanding of reliability metrics and how technology impacts the metrics.Desired experience with project management, Incident Command structure, and business continuity planning. 

Other Must Haves:

Strong project management and good communication skills required.Demonstrated successful leadership. Minimum 2 years leadership experience required.Regulatory experience preferred.Excellent written and verbal communications skills.Must possess demonstrated ability to successfully build strategic relationships, possess political acumen, and display strong initiative to manage resources, projects and issues across business units, committees and task forces (both internal and external to the Company).Must be able to work during storms and other emergencies.

Compensation Range:

$155,761.00-202,490.50 USD
