About the Corporate Controller Organization:
The Controllers Organization is responsible for delivering on the foundation of credibility and control of the core financial information leveraged across Finance to communicate with leadership, key business partners and regulators on the enterprise’s actual results, forecast implications and strategic decision making. This work considers legal entity structures, distribution channel, and product results as well as how these impact our capital optimization and operating liquidity.
The Opportunity
The Director of Reinsurance Controllership will lead a team responsible for quarterly reinsurance accounting, settlements, cash processing oversight and business analysis with a focus on STAT and GAAP basis for reinsurance transactions. Additional responsibilities will include collaborating with business partners on strategic reinsurance transactions and initiatives, analysis and reporting of quarterly financial reinsurance impacts, regulatory filings for MassMutual, and related internal control activities.

The Impact
Manage and lead a team of professionals responsible for the accurate and timely completion of quarterly reinsurance accounting close and settlement cycles by effectively planning, monitoring, and problem solvingLead the quarterly analysis on trends and resultsLead transactional work to launch reinsurance treaties Add value to the enterprise through close collaboration and partnership with other MassMutual business units and corporate functions to ensure the accurate, timely and efficient submission of data and analysis required to meet reporting requirementsExhibit strong leadership presence and communications skills in presenting results to various levels of management. This will require thought leadership and entail developing sound accounting practices, efficient processes, and robust control documentation to effectively deliver timely and insightful resultsAssure adherence to an internal control framework that ensures accurate and timely financial reporting. Makes recommendations to continuously improve the overall control environmentUnderstand how data flows through the financial systems to the accounting function, planning appropriately for changes and prioritizing and implementing enhancementsPlay a key role in creating a collaborative and inclusive culture by working closely with other areas within the Controllers Organization to build trust through increasing understanding of and respecting differencesUse professional insight to identify, initiate and/or lead initiatives and continuous improvement activities that increase efficiency and add value. Leads problem solving to improve quality, reduce close cycle times, improve team collaboration, including collaboration with vendors, and improve customer satisfactionDemonstrate the technical and leadership competencies and passion for continuous improvementsThe Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related fieldCPA10+ years of progressive experience in public accounting or large sophisticated corporate environmentThe Ideal Qualifications
Experience in insurance or reinsurance accounting highly preferredProven ability to successfully handle competing priorities and multiple deliverablesIn-depth knowledge and experience of US GAAP and statutory accountingExperience in best-in-class control execution/documentationExperience in using accounting data and information to analyze and articulate financial resultsAbility to perform independent research and serve as a key resource for resolution of unique or complex business problemsExperience in effectively coach and develop core level accountants and external consultantsWhat to Expect as Part of MassMutual and the Team

Salary Range: $121,800.00-$159,800.00
