Job Summary
Catering by Design is a premier off-premise catering company based in Denver, serving luxury weddings, nonprofit galas, and high-end corporate and social events throughout the state, and in Wyoming.
The Director of Sales will lead a team of 5 Catering Sales Managers plus 4 Event producers responsible for generating $11-12M+ in annual revenue. The role includes oversight of sales pipeline development, proposal strategy, key account management, and ensuring seamless handoff from sales to production. Event size varies widely from intimate 50-person dinners to multi-day festivals serving over 25,000 guests. This role requires a strong understanding of high-volume catering logistics and a commitment to excellence in client service and operational efficiency.
This role will include:
+ Manage and lead the sales and front desk teams in achieving individual and company-wide goals
+ Assist in securing new leads and developing business for the sales team
+ Grow sales by ensuring inquiries and leads are responded to in an enthusiastic and timely manner
+ Manage event production to include proposal writing, menu development, equipment & logistics, floor plans, and Caterease management including sales training, sales processes, and maintenance requests
+ Collaborate with Director of Business Development to strategize new menu and creative initiatives
+ Develop sales plans and strategies to support company goals and objectives
+ Develop prospecting and new business development strategies
+ Work collaboratively with Service and Operations Teams to ensure we are providing the highest level of customer service and developing a culture of no clients should be a one-time client
+ Work collaboratively with the Culinary Team in the development of quality, creative, and timely presentations of food for tastings, client gifts, and proposals
+ Work collaboratively with the Design Team in the development of quality, creativity, and timely proposals and ideas for up-sellable items; create a library of sellable items with production time frame requirements
+ Work with the leadership team to create sales revenue plans and goals
+ Develop reporting structure for sales, profitability, and budgets in conjunction with CFO/Accounting
+ Partner with the Accounting Department to tighten up the payment process to ensure compilation of accurate final billing and timely collection of accounts receivable
+ Train, and streamline the billing process for the sales team to collect timely payments (including pro formas and invoices)
Qualifications:
+ A proven track record of driving sales results in a competitive, client-facing environment
+ At least 5 years of experience leading a sales team in a corporate food services environment required
+ Catering Experience in a corporate food services environment is highly preferred
+ Exceptional communication and coaching skills with the ability to motivate and develop talent
+ A strategic mindset with hands-on experience in pricing, forecasting, and event sales process optimization
+ A passion for creativity and service, with a deep understanding of luxury clientele and bespoke event design
+ Experience with CRM and event management systems
+ This person is a natural relationship builder who thrives in fast-paced environments and can lead both strategy and execution with confidence and care.
