Director of Quality & Risk Management
Job Description

The Director of Quality & Risk Management is responsible for leading the facility’s quality improvement and risk mitigation programs. This role ensures the integration of patient safety initiatives, regulatory compliance, and continuous quality enhancement. The Director works in close collaboration with clinical and administrative leadership to drive organizational excellence, reduce risk exposure, and promote a culture of accountability and high-reliability care.

Essential Responsibilities

Lead the design, implementation, and evaluation of quality and risk management strategies in alignment with The Joint Commission, CMS, and other regulatory requirements. Develop and oversee risk assessments, mitigation plans, and patient safety initiatives to proactively identify and address potential safety concerns. Conduct Root Cause Analyses (RCA), Failure Modes and Effects Analyses (FMEA), and other tools to investigate adverse events and implement corrective actions. Partner with department leaders to create, monitor, and analyze Quality Improvement Plans (QIPs) and performance metrics that drive measurable improvement across clinical and operational areas. Maintain constant survey readiness and coordinate responses to audits and accreditation surveys. Provide education and training on risk reduction strategies, patient safety standards, and quality improvement methodologies to clinical and non-clinical staff. Present findings, reports, and strategic updates to leadership, quality committees, and the Governing Board to support data-driven decision-making. Promote a culture of safety, transparency, and continuous improvement throughout the organization. Perform other duties as assigned in support of organizational goals.

Qualifications

Associate Degree in Nursing required Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or related field preferred 5–7 years of experience in healthcare quality, risk management, or compliance required 1–3 years of leadership or management experience required

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Strong understanding of quality improvement frameworks, patient safety standards, and healthcare regulations Advanced analytical and critical thinking skills to assess risk and lead proactive improvement initiatives Effective communicator and influencer across all levels of staff and leadership Experience with quality reporting platforms and data-driven decision-making tools Proficiency in Google Workspace and relevant quality/risk software platforms Ability to lead organizational change and foster a culture of accountability and excellence

Licenses & Certifications

RN License – Active and in good standing (state or compact) – Required CPHQ – Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality – Preferred CPPS – Certified Professional in Patient Safety – Preferred CPHRM – Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management – Preferred
