Director of Quality – Aerospace & Defense

 

The Director of Quality is responsible for overseeing all quality-related activities, ensuring products and processes meet stringent industry standards and regulations. This role involves leading quality teams, developing and implementing quality management systems, conducting audits, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. They also work closely with operations, sales, and other departments to resolve quality issues and maintain product integrity.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/ACTIVITIES:

Assure services provided to Mistras customers is in accordance with Mistras ISO 900 quality program through audit functions. Coordinate with the technical group to assure that technicians are properly tested and certified in compliance with ISO 9001:2000 quality program. Provide leadership and direction to all areas of the quality organization. Establish and maintain the quality assurance system in accordance with AS 9100, and customer requirements. Manage internal quality system audit processes. Manage the hosting of external quality system audits by third party, customers, and government agencies. Direct and promote the use of diagnostic and predictive quality and continuous improvement tools and techniques including (SPC, statistical analysis, Lean, six-sigma) Establishes strong corrective/preventive action systems to continually improve operational performance and performance in meeting customer requirements (Scrap, Rework, Cost of Poor Quality, Quality Escapes) Act as main point of escalation and problem resolution for customers as needed to maintain a high level of customer satisfaction. Build quality department organizational capability by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training and developing employees. Maintain quality assurance staff job results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results. Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies. Achieve financial objectives by preparing the quality assurance budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions. Approximately 40 – 60 % travel.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Associates or Bachelors Degree from either a college or a trade school or equivalent experience. At least 2 years direct experience in the Management/Auditing of an ISO 9001 Quality System. Experience with using a PC for recordkeeping and report generation. Good written and verbal communication skills. Experience with Quality and Safety documentation.

 

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL FUNCTIONS:

Frequent lifting up to 30 lbs.
