ABOUT THE ROLE

The Director of Project Management is a pivotal leadership role reporting directly to the SVP of Business Transformation. This role drives the execution of strategic initiatives by managing the enterprise project portfolio, leading the project prioritization process, and overseeing resource planning and team performance. In addition to portfolio oversight, this role may directly manage high-profile or complex projects that require executive-level visibility and hands-on leadership.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Strategic Leadership and Execution:

Develop and execute the organization’s project management strategy in alignment with the Business Transformation vision and enterprise strategic objectives. Establish scalable structures, standards, and tools to support consistent project delivery across departments. Ensure that project management practices evolve in response to organizational growth, regulatory demands, and technological advancements. Cultivate strong cross-functional relationships with leaders across the enterprise including operations, compliance, and IT.

Enterprise Portfolio Management:

Lead the development and management of an enterprise-wide project portfolio that supports strategic goals, compliance requirements, and growth initiatives. Maintain a centralized portfolio dashboard to track initiative status, risks, dependencies, and benefit realization. Collaborate with executive leadership to evaluate proposed projects based on business value, feasibility, and strategic alignment. Facilitate the Prioritization Committee, ensuring an objective, transparent process for project selection and sequencing. Provide regular reporting and strategic recommendations to executive leadership on project trade-offs and investment decisions. Partner closely with the Business Analysis team to ensure projects are supported by clear business requirements, well-defined objectives, and validated solutions. Serve as the lead project manager on select high-profile or strategically critical initiatives, providing direct oversight and executive-level reporting. Deliver clear, data-driven communication on portfolio health, initiative status, and key decision points.

Team Leadership, Coaching, and Development:

Hire, develop, and retain a high-performing team of project managers ensuring adherence to methodology, quality standards, and risk mitigation practices. Identify performance gaps or developmental needs and provide timely feedback, mentoring, and learning opportunities. Actively seek feedback from stakeholders and cross-functional partners on the performance of individual team members to inform coaching conversations and development efforts.

Resource Planning and Capacity Management:

Lead project resource planning at the enterprise level, ensuring appropriate assignment of project managers and contributors based on skill sets and availability. Partner with business and functional leaders to forecast demand and proactively address capacity constraints. Develop scalable processes for tracking resource utilization and optimizing workload distribution.

EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE

The ideal candidate would possess:

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Information Systems, or related field; Master’s degree preferred. Project Management Professional (PMP) certification required. Agile or SAFe certification a plus. 10+ years of progressive project and portfolio management experience 5+ years of experience managing teams Proven track record of delivering strategic initiatives in a highly regulated environment (finance, healthcare, government, or similar sectors), including digital transformation, core system upgrades, regulatory compliance, or customer experience enhancements. Strong understanding of portfolio governance, resource capacity planning, and prioritization methodologies. Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills. Proficiency with project and portfolio management tools (e.g., Microsoft Project, Smartsheet, Jira, or similar). Strategic mindset with the ability to balance execution discipline with agility and innovation.
