Position OverviewOperations: Demonstrates leadership within a collaborative interprofessional environment utilizing continues improvement to drive high levels of engagement resulting in quality outcomes for patients and team members. Using an adaptable style builds a flexible approach for effective and efficient day-to-day operations. Maintains a key leadership role within the Patient Care Services Division for defining and maintaining operating standards that deliver long term value and support the organizational values, vision and mission. Uses effective communication that informs team members and fosters the UHS Way and Just Culture.
Nursing: Provides leadership and direction within the Department of Emergency Services by supporting a patient focused approach to care delivery that is safe, timely and equitable. Promotes the profession of nursing as a key member of the health care delivery team facilitating the use of Evidence Based Practice to drive high quality outcomes. Embraces employee engagement utilizing a shared governance model to approach decision making. Accountable in collaboration with Administrative Directors, Managers, Nurse Managers, and physician leaders on development and execution of budgeting, scheduling, education, strategic planning including program development for areas of responsibility while continually monitoring quality of services and operational outcomes.

There is more than one location associated with this position. This is either because there are multiple openings at different sites, or the successful candidate will be required to float across multiple UHS facilities. $65.54 - $98.31 per hour, depending on experience

Position Responsibilities
+ Communication and Relationship Management:
+ Builds Collaborative environments by developing trusting relationships balancing concerns of individuals with organizational goals and objectives.
+ Communicates in a respectful manner listening to key stakeholders and following up in a timely manner.
+ Facilitates shared decision making through support of Shared Governance and driving decision making to the lowest level of the organization while maintaining alignment to organizational strategic goals.
+ Provides concise, evidence supported and data driven communications to support decision making.
+ Promotes decision making that is patient center.
+ Ensures an environment that values diversity.
+ Establishes an environment that is open to sharing and idea exploration to achieve desired outcomes.
+ Build credible relationships with other members or the health care team including medical staff acting as a liaison for nursing services in establishing care teams that drive quality patient outcomes.
+ Knowledge of Health Care Environment
+ Demonstrate knowledge of current nursing practice including roles and responsibility of the patient care team.
+ Aware of patient care standards as set by accrediting bodies and state guidelines. Ensures practice within areas of responsibility aligns with standards.
+ Develop and Maintain nursing policies and procedures backed by evidence-based practice.
+ Demonstrates knowledge of patient care delivery systems and ensure adequate resources to meet the needs of patients and skill level of team members. Adopts new models of care to meet changing demands within the health system.
+ Supports the development and implementation of systems that support patient and employee safety.
+ Uses continues improvement methodology to drive improved systems and enhance patient safety.
+ Aligns department and division outcomes to organizational goals through development and implementation of division strategic plan that cascades down through departments.
+ Monitors and addresses performance for nurse sensitive indicators ensuring quality patient outcomes.
+ Improves outcomes by identifying problems, analyzing root causes and variation in standards and implementing innovative/evidence-based solutions to improve results.
+ Utilizes a Just Culture approach to reporting promoting a non-punitive approach.
+ Assuming “on call” responsibility and covering in the absence of VP of Patient Care Services; and providing day-to-day supervision of all nursing units at designated sites.
+ Facilitate emergency preparedness plans as indicated by internal and external factors
+ Leadership:
+ Provides visionary thinking promoting the art and science of nursing practice.
+ Remains open to new ideas and knowledge promoting curiosity and exploration of new ways of meeting patient and staff needs.
+ Applies self-reflection as a tool for ongoing growth and development.
+ Promotes system thinking in problem solving and decision making.
+ Provides targeted ongoing communication and coaching that fosters development of direct reports and team members in leading as a UHS caregiver.
+ Promotes Nursing leadership as a desired specialty while mentoring current and future nurse leaders.
+ Develop a leadership succession plan.
+ Serve as a change agent within the profession and division of nursing.
+ Professionalism
+ Contribute to the advancement of the profession through involvement in professional organizations locally, regionally or nationally.
+ Promote utilization of specialty knowledge from the standards of specialty professional organizations. This includes but not limited to staffing models, policies and procedures and recruitment and retention.
+ Promotes advancement of profession through professional certification.
+ Hold self and others to the ethical standards of the profession.
+ Involve nurses and other staff in decision making that affect their practice through use of the Shared Governance model and encouragement of participation within professional organizations.
+ Advocate for the health of populations through education and advocacy for the health of the community.
+ Integrates Nursing throughout the administrative structure of the institution by participating in all appropriate administrative leadership meetings and councils (including, but not limited to: Directors of Nursing, Medical Staff Department Meetings, Institutional Multidisciplinary Committees, Leadership Team, and Nursing Councils)
+ Business Skills
+ Develop and manage annual operating budget and capital expenditure plans.
+ Interpret financial statements and manage financial resources.
+ Participate in workforce planning and provide creative solutions to manage workforce while monitoring financial impacts.
+ Promote a healthy work environment resulting in satisfaction and retention within the departments of oversite.
+ Define business case for nursing for key operational objectives and goals.
+ Promote the image of nursing and the organization in internal and external platforms.
+ Utilize technology to support the improvement of clinical and financial outcomes.
+ Demonstrate skills in assessing data integrity and quality and utilizing for decision making as indicated.
Position QualificationsMinimum Required
+ Masters in Nursing or Bachelors in Nursing and Masters in Business or HealthCare related field.
+ New York State Registered Nurse License or eligible
+ Five (5) years of clinical nursing experience
+ Two (2) years of nursing management experience
Preferred
+ Professional certification in Nursing Executive (NE-BC) or Nursing Executive Advanced (NEA-BC). Required within 2 years of accepting position.
