Director of News Training and Staff Development

We need a dynamic leader for our Director of News and Staff Development to guide our Sinclair Content Centers through rapid industry changes and foster a culture of growth, adaptability, and excellence. This role requires someone who can inspire and develop talent, champion innovation in storytelling and technology, and ensure our teams are equipped to meet the demands of a diverse, multiplatform audience.
**RESPONSIBILITIES**
+ Lead and manage a team of talent development professionals supporting more than 60 Content Centers across the country.
+ Anticipate and assess training needs of content centers and their journalists, both on-air and off.
+ Lead training projects and virtual workshops through entire lifecycle.
+ Deliver customized training support to newsrooms upon request.
+ Design relevant and engaging training products for import into LMS with support of Sinclair’s Learning and Development team.
+ Provide support for other existing training initiatives including leadership training and on-air talent coaching, as needed.
+ Understand systems and champion change management efforts through training activities.
+ Build and maintain relationships with outside vendors as necessary
+ Engage and collaborate with team members in various departments (e.g., HR, Engineering, Legal, Promotions, etc.)
+ Maintain a high awareness of company initiatives, goals, and strategies
+ Contribute ideas for continuous improvement in our content centers
+ Quickly produce training products and be the standard bearer for quality
+ Work collaboratively with SVP of News and other corporate news team members to achieve success under shared vision.
+ Support projects through other duties as assigned.
**KNOWLDEGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES**
+ Knowledge of learning best practices across various modalities, including in-person or virtual Instructor Led Training, in-person or online workshops, self-directed online courses and group classes.
+ Knowledge of ethical and legal practices for newsgathering and dissemination.
+ Knowledge of industry trends, and ability to understand research
+ Knowledge of standard office software for building training products, communication, etc.
+ Knowledge of newsroom software for use in training.
+ Behind the scenes content creation skills (writing, producing, editing) that can be used for training success.
+ Networking skills to stay aware of updates from industry thought and content creation leaders.
+ Ability to find and present examples of excellence from within the company.
+ Ability to stay on top of industry trends and emerging technology for use in future teaching.
+ Ability to represent company to other journalists and industry leaders in training capacity.
+ Ability to operate with discretion and handle confidential information.
+ Ability to assess and deliver clear, constructive feedback of work product as necessary.
+ Ability to assess needs for newsrooms and design relevant, impactful training products.
+ Ability to travel as much as 20% of the time.
+ Ability to clearly communicate with employee learners of all skill levels.
+ Ability to communicate training requirements to partners in Learning & Development.

The base salary compensation range for this role is $110,000 to $120,000. In addition to base pay, this role is eligible for an annual performance-based bonus. Final compensation for this role will be determined by various factors such as a candidate’s relevant work experience, skills, certifications, and geographic location. Full time positions are eligible for benefits that include participation in a retirement plan, life and disability insurance, health, dental and vision plans, flexible spending accounts, 15 paid vacation days, 2 paid personal days, 9 paid holidays, 40 hours of paid sick leave, parental leave, and employee stock purchase plan.
