Director of Maintenance

General Description\n

The Director of Maintenance is responsible for the overall management, oversight, and execution of Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) operations to ensure compliance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations, customer regulations and requirements, safety standards, ISO and AS standards, and organizational goals. This position has management responsibility for all MRO locations owned and\/or operated by Tyonek.\n

Duties\n\nRegulatory Compliance:\n\nEnsure all maintenance activities comply with FAA regulations and\/or customer Service Guidance.\nMaintain and enforce adherence to the Repair Station Manual (RSM), Quality Control Manual, Safety Manual, approved Flight Operations and Ground Operations Procedures (FOP\/GOP).\nServe as the primary liaison with the FAA Principal Maintenance Inspector and Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA) Quality Liaison.\nOversee proper documentation of maintenance actions per FAA, Manufacturer, and Service Guidance.\n\n\nOperational Oversight:\n\nDirect, Manage, and oversee all MRO operations including scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, inspections, repairs, and modifications.\nPlan and coordinate aircraft maintenance to optimize efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and on-time delivery.\nMonitor workflow, timelines, and resource allocation (labor, equipment, tools, and parts).\n\n\nLeadership and Personnel Management:\n\nSupervise maintenance personnel including Site Directors, Managers, Supervisors, Technicians and Support Staff.\nEnsure all staff are properly trained, certified, and qualified for assigned tasks.\nConduct performance reviews, hiring, and disciplinary actions as needed.\n\n\nSafety and Quality Assurance:\n\nChampion a safety-first culture and ensure strict adherence to OSHA, FAA and USG Services safety protocols.\nCoordinate with the Quality Department to address discrepancies, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.\nLead or participate in internal and external audits (FAA, Customer, etc.).\n\n\nStrategic and Financial Planning:\n\nContribute to budgeting, forecasting, and cost control for maintenance operations.\nMonitor KPIs such as turnaround time (TAT), return to service rates, and maintenance costs.\nParticipate in strategic planning and decision-making as part of the executive leadership team.\n\n\nCustomer Relations\n\nCommunicate with customers regarding work scope, progress, delays, and delivery timelines.\nEnsure customer satisfaction with quality, cost, and timeliness of services.\n\n\nOther duties as assigned\n\n

Education\/Experience Requirements\n\nFAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Certificate, Inspection Authorization (IA) preferred.\nMinimum of 10 years of experience in aircraft maintenance with at least 5 years in leadership role at an FAA Part 145 Repair Station, and a degree in Aviation Maintenance Management or related field preferred.\nStrong knowledge of FAA regulations, especially Parts 43, 65, and 145.\nExperience with SMS (Safety Management Systems)\nKnowledge of ISO and AS9110 quality standards.\nMust have verifiable experience and a proven ability to determine requirements, personnel, repair parts, time allocation, and facility requirements necessary to perform maintenance actions performed at a complex multi-function aviation facility.\nMust have an extensive working knowledge of both military and general aviation aircraft and maintenance principles. \nMust be able to handle complex administrative and technical details. \nMust possess effective communicative skills, both oral and written, to deal with corporate and customer concerns. \nMust have a proven history of reliability and demonstrated initiative with proactive supervisory management skills as an aircraft mechanic and supervisor. \nWill require a security clearance in the performance of duties.\nMust be a US citizen \nMust be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.\nWe maintain a drug-free workplace and perform post-offer, pre-employment substance abuse testing.\n\n
