The Opportunity
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced professional to lead and elevate the firm’s pricing and portfolio valuation function. This role is critical to ensuring timely, independent, and fair valuations of all invested assets—including public and private securities, derivatives, loans, commercial mortgages (CMLs), and real estate—within the firm’s Investment Data Ecosystem. The successful candidate will be responsible for determining and validating asset values and ensuring pricing data is accurate, complete, and seamlessly integrated into core financial reporting and investment analytics systems.
This position blends strategic leadership of a specialized pricing team with ownership of pricing policies and controls, as well as hands-on collaboration with investment teams, external service providers, and regulatory stakeholders. A key part of the role is fostering team development through coaching, feedback, and knowledge sharing to build expertise and promote cross-functional alignment. The ideal candidate will bring deep knowledge of complex asset classes, strong valuation expertise, and a proven ability to drive process improvements and technology integration within pricing and valuation frameworks.
The Team
The Pricing and Valuations team is part of the MassMutual Investment Operations group within the Investment Management division, reporting to the Head of the Positions and pricing Oversight Team. This team works closely with asset-class-specific investment teams and is aligned with the reconciliations team to ensure consistency with MassMutual’s operational processes.
The Impact
The Pricing & Valuations Director will have an impact in the following 4 areas:
Strategy & GovernanceDefine and continually enhance the Pricing & Valuations Policy in line with regulatory guidance and Mass Mutual’s policiesParticipate in the Valuations Committee; set agendas, prepare packs, document minutes and ensure timely escalation of material valuation mattersActively seek and propose enhancements to processes in Pricing and Valuations across technology, data, personnel, and operational practices.Operational OversightOversee daily and month-end price capture, tolerance checks, stale price monitoring and exception management across all asset classes (listed equity, fixed income, OTC/ETD derivatives, private assets, loans, real assets)Understand an opine on complex valuation models (DCF, comparable transactions, NAV waterfall, Black-Scholes, CVA/DVA, etc.)Approve valuations; partner with asset managers and third-party pricing vendors to resolve challengesReport into MM governance forums on pricing issues, processes and risksControl & Risk ManagementOwn controls covering pricing source hierarchy, valuation adjustments (liquidity, credit, FX, bid-ask), and fair-value levellingLead periodic independent price verification (IPV) and provide attestation to Audit & Risk CommitteesCoordinate external audit requests and manage regulator/board queries on valuation matters.People LeadershipLead and mentor a team of 4-5 pricing analysts/valuation specialistsDrive talent development, succession planning and a culture of continuous improvement and constructive challengeThe Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s in Finance, Economics, Accounting or STEM10+ years in asset management, hedge fund, custodian or Big 4 valuation advisory3+ years in a leadership roleThe Ideal Qualifications
CFA and/or CAIA preferredDeep knowledge of multi-asset valuation techniques, pricing vendor landscape and accounting/reporting standardsProven track record designing and operating control environmentsAdvanced Excel/VBA; exposure to Python, SQL or Alteryx beneficial. Salary Range: $131,100.00-$172,000.00
