The Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life provides strategic vision, leadership, and oversight for the University of Pittsburgh’s vibrant and growing fraternity and sorority community, which currently includes 40 chapters and more than 2,700 student members across the Panhellenic, Interfraternity, and National Pan-Hellenic Councils. The Director is responsible for the development and implementation of policies, programs, and support services that promote student leadership, organizational accountability, community engagement, and risk management within FSL.
Key responsibilities include supervising the fraternity and sorority life team; advising council leaders; managing chapter recognition and recruitment processes; coordinating signature programs such as Greek Week, the Steel City Step Show, Welcome Week events, and the Fraternity and Sorority Life Leadership Academy; and serving as a liaison to national headquarters and alumni advisors. The Director also oversees compliance with institutional and state regulations, including the StopHazing Act, and collaborates closely with campus partners in Student Conduct, Title IX and Civil Rights Equal Opportunity (CIE), Housing, and Campus Safety. Additionally, the Director leads crisis response and incident management efforts related to the FSL community and plays a critical role in advancing student well-being, leadership development, and inclusion within the fraternity and sorority experience at Pitt.
This position will report to the Associate Dean of Culture and Community and will serve as the leader of the department. The Director will provide supervision of a receptionist and an assistant director (who supervises two program coordinators). With a recent division-wide restructuring process, there is the opportunity to establish the department with a laser focus on enhancing Fraternity and Sorority Life, partnering with the 40 organizations currently representing PanHellenic, NPHC, and IFC. Additionally, the Director will serve on the Division’s Culture and Community leadership team, working with colleagues from four other departments to create shared strategies to support and challenge our students to be active contributors to their communities, both on and off campus. Successful candidates will demonstrate a commitment to inclusion and belonging through examples of their professional work, as well as effective communication with all constituencies in day-to-day operations and crisis management. A history of evolving effective structure and processes within which sororities and fraternities can be successful is preferred.
