Director of Finance

Scope of Position:

The Director of Finance is responsible for providing consistent leadership in the financial area of the hotel by supplying management with guidance and training; focusing on the profitability of the business; maintaining accurate and timely financial reporting; ensuring acceptable levels on internal control; ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, and safeguarding owners/investors assets.

Position Qualifications and Requirements:

Education and Experience:

Four-year college degree is required, and/or equivalent work experience. Certification preferred: Senior manager and/or other certification as required by franchise. Previous Department managerial experience preferred. Minimum of 7 years of financial working knowledge and computer skills required;  Advanced knowledge of Excel required. Alcohol awareness certification as required by local or state government agency.   Valid state driver’s license from applicable state and MVR in good standing.

Physical Demands:

Long hours sometimes required, including nights and weekends. Medium Work - Exerting up to 30 pounds of force occasionally, and /or 20 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

Required Competencies:

Must be able to convey information and ideas clearly, both oral and written. Must be able to evaluate and select among alternative courses of action quickly and accurately. Must be able to work well in stressful, high-pressure situations including the ability to handle guest and employee complaints and disputes and resolve them to satisfactory results. Must maintain composure and objectivity under pressure. Must be effective in handling problems in the workplace, including anticipating, preventing, identifying and solving problems as necessary. Must have the ability to assimilate complex information, data, etc. from various sources and consider, adjust or modify to meet the constraints of the particular need. Must be effective at listening to, understanding and clarifying concerns and issues raised by team members and guests. Must be able to work with and understand financial information and data, and mathematical functions. Prepare financial analysis of hotel operations including variance explanation and make recommendations to the achievement of financial goals/targets. Develop and implement financial control procedures and systems; ensure compliance to “Internal Control Checkup”; maintain documents for audits of hotel accounts; ensure compliance with government regulations and contractual agreements. Direct preparation of budgets, financial forecasts and reporting. Hire, train and provide career development for subordinates; conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback to employees in a timely manner. Ensure hotel is in compliance with all federal, state and local laws, including OSHA, EEOC, Wage Hour and Health laws. Perform special financial analysis as needed and/or requested by the General Manager and Corporate Office. Maximize efforts towards productivity, identify problem areas and assist in finding and implementing their solutions. Effectively manage and communicate cash flow related issues. This includes the accurate and timely preparation of cash flow statements, management of receivables, payables, cash balances, control mechanisms and timely deposits of all funds. Monitor hotel revenues and expenses and ensure accurate recording in accordance with SW Hotel established guidelines. Investigate and critique variances to budget or to prior year and offer practical improvement ideas to management. Perform other duties as requested by management.
