Job Description

SUMMARY: 

Reporting to the Senior Director for Access and Retention Initiatives, the Bloomfield College of Montclair State University Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) Program, the Director of EOF plays a critical strategic role in advancing institutional commitment to educational equity, student access, and success for historically underrepresented and economically disadvantaged students.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop mission, strategic goals and day-to-day administration for EOF including the annual review of EOF staffing, recruitment, enrollment and graduation plan, Summer Program, year-round programming, advising structure, and all policies and procedures.

Manage all aspects of the EOF Program including the academic and social integration of returning students, the annual Summer Program students, incoming EOF transfers, EOF graduate students and all targeted initiatives and programs related to learning, retention, and satisfaction.

Administer and monitor $1,000,000+ state grant allocation (operational, summer, undergraduate grant, graduate grant) and the University budget.

Train, supervise and evaluate the EOF Program Assistant and support staff; EOF counseling staff according to state regulations and University standards.

Coordinate the EOF Summer Program; supervise and coordinate the recruitment process as it pertains to the placement testing and orientation of summer programs students, oversee the summer program academic course scheduling process. Coordinate the review of the academic progress of program participants. Serve as program liaison and lead planning meetings with academic departments, Dining Services, Registrar, Student Affairs, Center for Student Success (CSS) and other campus partners.

Manage the allocation of Financial Aid EOF grant awards for undergraduate and graduate students in conjunction with Student Financial Services including NJFAMS certification, completion of FAFSA, HESAA documentation, student verification and other requirements related to scholarships, loans, payment plans, grants, and guidelines for successful progress towards graduation.

Oversee the recruitment of eligible students in conjunction with the Office of Admissions.

Monitor the academic progress of students through the use of progress reports, alert systems and other technologies/systems. Ensure students in academic jeopardy and/or those not making Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) are advised and provided the proper referrals and mandatory support.

Develop and oversee the mandatory academic advising model including, developing mission, goals, expectations for advisor/advisee, 12-month calendar, advisee assignments, professional development, and advising resources tools.

Coordinate the EOF Graduate Grant including, monitoring completion of program objectives, monitoring financial aid process for program participants and completing assessments, evaluations, and mandatory state reports.

Develop key partnerships with external constituents (feeder schools, churches, non-profit organization, etc.); develop and implement program policy and procedures.

Act as liaison to university partners offices in support of EOF initiatives, programs, and services.

Complete annual reporting, assessment and evaluation, and compilation of student rosters and agreements in compliance with university and state regulations.

Administer and supervise the planning and coordination of the EOF counseling program and caseload management.

Train, co-supervise and evaluate EOF part-time hires, graduate assistants, interns, and student workers.

Oversee staff internal school/program liaison program and external partnerships.

Participate in campus-wide committees (e.g. search committees).

Plan, implement, and evaluate student success programs and outreach initiatives for all EOF students and at-risk groups (e.g. students in academic difficulty, non-registered continuing students, pre-major).

Oversee student success initiatives in the areas of community service, leadership, financial literacy, career development, mentorship, cultural awareness, social justice and program advocacy.

Conduct assessment and utilize data compiled from standardized assessment tools and in-house data collection to ensure current programs and services are achieving established goals related to student learning, retention, and satisfaction.

Collaborate with Bloomfield College of Montclair State University Alumni network to include involvement in student success programs, advocacy and other pertinent initiatives.

Participate in internal and external managerial development trainings (e.g. budget, technology), conferences and professional associations regarding learning, retention, and satisfaction of students from disadvantaged backgrounds (pending the availability of funds).

Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED:

Master’s degree from accredited college or university in Counseling, Higher Education or a related field.

A minimum of five years of experience in a college/university EOF program or a related field.

Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and organizational skills to address the needs of underrepresented students.

Demonstrated analytical skills and the ability to use data to drive decision-making.

Strong budgetary management skills to ensure fiscal responsibility.

Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential and a proven ability to interact with a variety of academic disciplines, individuals, and organizations.

PREFERRED:

Doctoral degree from an accredited college or university in higher education or a related field.

Ability to handle multiple assignments, work under pressure, and meet deadlines.

Ability to motivate staff and students to create an effective environment.

Salary Range

$85,000.00-$95,000.00 Annually
