Director of Engineering

For a luxury 5-star hospitality group, the Director of Engineering will oversee building maintenance, focusing on safety, energy efficiency, and asset protection. They’ll manage budgets, lead teams, ensure compliance, and coordinate emergency response.

 

Main Duties:

- Operations and Budget Management:

Oversees engineering operations to ensure performance aligns with budgetary goals, proactively identifying and addressing issues;

Manages building systems and facilities according to established procedures, coordinating service contracts and supervising construction projects for timely, on-budget completion;

Manages and administrates specialist maintenance contracts, ensuring service quality and compliance;

Controls and verifies the implementation of maintenance plans;

Plans and manages budgets related to the engineering function;

Develops and executes property development projects;

Controls energy consumption and optimizes related costs;

Conducts regular meetings with the maintenance department and other hotel departments to ensure alignment and coordination.

 

- Technical Standards and Compliance:

Ensures compliance with all applicable regulations, maintaining up-to-date safety systems, licenses, and certifications;

Manages relationships with external entities such as local authorities, municipalities, and regulatory bodies;

Applies company policies consistently and fairly throughout the department.

 

- Profitability and Financial Oversight:

Manages operating costs and payroll to meet or exceed budget targets;

Participates in capital expenditure planning and leads regular financial performance reviews to guide decision-making;

 

- Human Resources and Team Communication:

Ensures fair treatment of employees by overseeing disciplinary procedures in line with company policies;

Promotes open, ongoing communication within the engineering team to align daily activities with business goals;

Recognizes team achievements and promptly addresses employee and guest concerns to maintain a positive working environment.

 

- Requirements:

Experience in operating and managing HVAC systems for both summer and winter, geothermal systems, and medium and low voltage electrical systems;

Knowledge of UNI standards related to technical systems;

Familiarity with regulatory compliance and reporting requirements to authorities;

Proven ability to manage operational teams effectively;

Competence in sustainability practices and initiatives.
