The Job:
As Director of Engineering - Digital, you’ll be part of our Corporate IT team working as a remote employee. We are seeking a forward-thinking and technically adept Director of Digital Engineering to lead the design, development, and delivery of modern digital applications and platforms. This role is responsible for overseeing a diverse engineering landscape—from scalable full-stack applications and edge delivery to CMS integrations and partner-managed services. The ideal candidate is an experienced technology leader with a strong foundation in modern application architecture, microservices, and cloud-native engineering. You will guide the implementation of cutting-edge web frameworks, intelligent automation, and performance optimization strategies that power exceptional digital experiences at scale.
You’ll get to:
Define and lead the technical strategy for building and scaling modern digital applications using frameworks such as Next.js, Node.js, and cloud-native services.Architect modular, performant systems using microservices, API-first design, and serverless technologies where appropriate.Ensure scalable deployment and edge performance through platforms such as Vercel, Akamai, or other CDN/edge solutions.Introduce and operationalize AI-enhanced development and testing tools to boost quality, velocity, and automation across the software lifecycle.Oversee CMS integration efforts (e.g., Drupal) as part of a broader omnichannel content and application ecosystem—ensuring flexibility, not dependency.Guide cloud infrastructure decisions across AWS, Azure, or GCP, ensuring high availability, observability, and cost efficiency.Manage relationships with external partners including MSPs, holding them accountable to SLAs and service excellence.Collaborate with cross-functional teams—product, design, data, and security—to align engineering execution with strategic business outcomes.Champion engineering excellence, CI/CD best practices, and infrastructure as code (IaC) adoption.Lead incident response and continuous improvement efforts to ensure platform reliability and resilience.The Person:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.10+ years of progressive engineering experience, including large-scale web application development and platform architecture.Proven expertise in modern full stack development, including JavaScript/TypeScript, Next.js, and cloud-first environments.Experience with microservices, distributed systems, REST/GraphQL APIs, and event-driven architectures.Deep familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, container orchestration (Docker/Kubernetes), and DevOps tooling.Understanding of AI/ML-powered tools for development, testing, and release automation.Experience with performance optimization, edge delivery (CDN), and observability tools.Strong vendor management skills, particularly with MSPs and third-party engineering teams.Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills.Preferred Qualifications:
Experience leading digital engineering within high-scale consumer platforms, SaaS, or e-commerce environments.Familiarity with SRE principles, DevSecOps, and zero-downtime deployment strategies.Certifications in cloud architecture, agile delivery, or secure software development.The Details:

The base pay range for this position in Maryland is $131,200 – 262,400 USD Annual per year. Pay is based on market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. A sign-on payment may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
