Purpose 

The Department of Psychology is seeking a highly motivated director to oversee the Psychology Business Office operations and assist the department chair with the essential and complex processes integral to the success of the department, including support for the research and teaching missions. 

Responsibilities Direct, manage, and supervise all administrative operations for Department of Psychology Business Office. Duties include, but are not limited to payroll, human resources, employment recruitment, purchasing, account reconciliation, reporting, and inventory management. Organize and lead weekly staff meetings and serve as project manager initiatives, identifying and assigning tasks, tracking progress, and ensuring deliverables are met in a timely and successful manner. Serve as secondary supervisor for other staff members and designated backup for staff members as needed. Advise Department Chair on personnel management and Human-Resources-related matters.Coordinate and provide oversight and analysis of, and strategic advice pertaining to, faculty recruitment, reviews, research leaves, promotion, service, and teaching. Attend faculty and Executive Committee meetings and advise participants on financial, administrative, curriculum, and faculty-related matters. Coordinate with College of Liberal Arts Dean’s Office, Human Resources team, Research Support Office, Course Management Services team, the Provost’s Office, and other relevant campus units to address and resolve faculty-related concerns as needed.Support the extramurally funded research mission of the department including management of pre and post award specialists. Maintain ongoing contact with department faculty with sponsored research grants, department staff, OSP and accounting staff to ensure quality, implementation and completion of grant-related contractual work.Make policy recommendations and develop reports, briefs, presentations, and other materials to help advance policy goals. Participate in and conduct as needed internal and relevant external meetings, committees, and related function.Strategic planning in conjunction with leadership to grow the program and align with the university strategic plan. In coordination with Academic Program Coordinator and Graduate Program Administrator, provide oversight and analysis of, and strategic advice pertaining to curriculum planning and graduate student support. Attend departmental course scheduling meetings and advise participants on such matters accordingly. Coordinate with College of Liberal Arts Course Management Services team, Dean’s Office, and other relevant campus units to address and resolve curriculum-related concerns as needed.Other related functions as assigned.

Required Qualifications 

Bachelor's degree in a related field. A combination of five years’ experience including supervisory experience in an administrative or operations role, preferably in a higher education environment. Capacity to work independently without substantial guidance. High standards, professional demeanor, professional communication skills, and the ability to compose accurate and timely correspondence. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, to organize, prioritize, and report on competing projects. Proven effectiveness in cross-disciplinary collaboration both inside (in other units and functions) and outside the organization. 

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. 

Preferred Qualifications 

Master's degree or higher in a related field. More than five years of experience in an administrative or operations role. Experience and familiarity with The University of Texas at Austin, its policies, procedures, and systems. Experience working in a collaborative academic environment with faculty, staff, and other stakeholders in higher education. 

Salary Range 

$85,000 + depending on qualifications

Employment Eligibility:

Retirement Plan Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
